If you complete the game you should get most of the weapon schematics. Once you get these, buy or locate a workbench, collect the necessary parts(as the russian instructed), and you can create the weapons.

As far as getting better stronger weapons, just take the time to explore each and every location. Most have some type of weapon.

It is free roam. Get some weapon schematics, and find a workbench. A safe one is in Megaton supply. If you do some of the lady's quest's in megaton supply, you can get a Rock-It Launcher schematic that will launch anything, teddy bears, etc.

Something thats also handy is having a decent ammount of points in repair at your skills find 2 matching guns and repair them so you get 1 better gun.

There is a dog in the game that will join you if you find him.

I suggest getting your speech, repair and small arms skills up to 90 first before getting any other skill above 50

well so far im following talo on the repair and small arms but i still dont see need for speech yet.
Anyway, do you find this dog by luck or is he/she actually somewhere?

Winning speech battles, picking locks, and repairing things will make you level up alot faster than by killing things also.

You can find the dog rumbling with a bunch a raiders close to the scrapyard. You can either be nice to him or send him off. The latter, in my opinion, would be the better option. For the dog dies so quickly, it is not even worth the hassle.

Meh, i took dogmeat cos hes so awesome. He can set up for good VATS shots. Plus he searches for stuff so thats cool =P

Attack the head. Use assault rifles and/or combat shotguns. forget about the food ; use stimpaks.

To find Dogmeat, first get the Minefield quest from Moira. Once you get to Minefield, go south and slightly east until you hit the location called Scrapyard. Wander around Scrapyard until you see Dogmeat fighting some raiders. After he kills the raiders, Dogmeat will talk to you and you can make him a member of your party.
