What was your favorite WWII battle of all time? Mine would have to be against Poland, when we wipped them, no offense to anyone who is Polish, it's just my favorite battle.
The Battle of Stalingrad was the bloodiest battle of all time, but also the turning point in the war. The Nazi war machine had not been stopped until the Russians put up a fierce resistance at the city named after their leader.
Some of the most patriotic acts of all time were witnessed at Stalingrad. Russians would crash their planes and tanks into Germans, killing themselves just to stop a German advancement. Civilian women would run into enemy gunfire to help wounded soldiers. Children would mount machine guns, and shoot at the Nazi's, knowing that they would likely die.
Stalingrad was the first major battle where the Germans were halted. After this, the Soviet Union was able to take on the Germans and push them all the way back to Berlin.
R u sure? Was it before or after the Bulge? I don't remember.
Stalingrad started in 1942 and ended in 1943. The Bulge was 1944-45. By the time of the Battle of the Bulge, everyone knew the Germans were going to lose. It was just a matter of time. During Stalingrad, the world knew that a Russian loss meant the Nazi's would likely conquer Europe.
The common Red Army soldier was an untrained peasent, but they had something, something that no other man had. To fight for their country in their last dying breath. They show real patriosm in the battle of Stalingrad. I think this music suits well for the battle of Stalingrad .
1. Bocage: Area of land just after the beaches of Normandy. The US Troops showed inginuity and bravery here.
2. Operation Market Garden: 101st Screaming Eagles where to drop into Antwerp, Holland, and creat a pocket for British Armor to drive to, capturing the vital bridge at Antwerp
3. War in China: Most notably the Flying Tigers, a group of American volunteers led by Claire Chennault
4. Tobruk: Rommel veiwed the column he had driven into the British area as not being surrounded on 3 sides, as most would, but as being able to attack the enemy everywhere
War is horrible but is it necessary? My grandfather killed himself after when he returned him from fighting the Japanese. What the Japanese did over there is indescribable.
