GREELEY, Colorado - A Colorado teen has been sentenced to 36 years in prison for his role in the death of a 7-year-old girl during an apparent imitation of the "Mortal Kombat" video game.
Lamar Roberts was sentenced Friday in Greeley's Weld County District Court. The 18-year-old pleaded guilty last month to knowingly or recklessly causing a death through child abuse.
Prosecutors say Roberts and 17-year-old Heather Trujillo were baby-sitting Zoe Garcia on Dec. 6, 2007. They say the two kicked, hit and slammed Trujillo's half-sister to the floor.
The mind boggles it really does. Imitation of popular media is and odd cause for a crime that unfortuantley is becoming more prevalent in modern society. I think th James Bulger case "inspired" by the Childs play series is the worst I've heard about.
Either,the dude was retarded or,he just beat mortal kombat with scorpion and got so happy he used the same kick he used on Onaga,he used it on the girl.
There had to be some form of mind altering substance involved in this, people just don't do this kind of thing for no reason. I find it hard to believe that an 18 year old would do this and not understand what would happen, so either there is something mentally wrong with these two or some form of mind altering substance was involved.
Well I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't mind problems. They probably were just playing and got out of hand, or just did it because they hated the kid. Who knows?
Wait up. How did they know that the two beat the child to death like in mortal kombat? Couldn't they just have beaten her to death,
But if it was something like mortal Kombat, then thats just sad. Why the child? Maybe they were mad about something and just decided to beat the child and later kill her. Or maybe they were just too addicted to games. I used to be addicted to games though. Like in the summer I would stay almost the whole day playing games (NES- Super Mario Bros, Techmo Bowl). I couldnt go out because it wasnt good but i could have traveled to the park. I kept trying to find an excuse but i regret all the time i wasted. They were good games but it wasn't good to do that. I noticed that my socially and violently. i wasnt doing that good, exactly like a NERD. but i realized that games ARE A WASTE OF TIME. i dont play much and resorted to excersize. My parents werent there much and i just noticed that maybe they were working so much in such bad jobs because of the amount of electricity i used. and i used to feel bad for them but later found out that i was the adding of their pain.
the bottom line of my long experience.... VIDEO GAMES ARE JUST A WASTE OF TIME AND ONLY CAUSE NEGATIVE EFFECTS IN LIFE. it wouldnt be surprising if they were die hard fans and didnt apreciate life enough to moderate the amount of games they play (like Columbine)
