CHICAGO - A Catholic school in Chicago is investigating how a 6-year-old boy was left sleeping on a school bus for more than two hours in subzero temperatures.
St. Malachy School officials said Kinjari Penson fell asleep Thursday on the way to an after-school program at a Chicago church. The first-grader didn't wake up until the other children returned to the bus.
The temperatures had dropped to 11 below zero. The boy complained that his feet hurt from the cold and was treated for hypothermia at a hospital. He has been released.
how dumb is the teacher, or the bus driver not to notice(i would be MAD) what do u think about this
How could you forget a kid on a bus? You can see the top of their head and you should check the rows of the bus to see if anyone is still on board. It's just stupid behavior, but at least the kid is alive and well.
-11? Chicago People...About a week ago, here in Saskatoon, Canada, we had like -50 temperature... (lower than antartica was) But now it is 0 and it is hot. Bad Bus Driver IMO. -11 isn't even a winter jacket day here. We wear Sweaters instead.
OMG seriously... well feel bad for the teacher, but no kids should be complaining about -11 lol... wow thats a day where i wear a t-shirt, and even then im too hot.. Try -50... we had that too deathserpent lol... i live in Alberta.. But geez no offense but if all it is was his feet hurting from being cold, theres nothing big to worry about... I admit the teachers stupid for not checking, but then again he/she was prob first off the bus to make sure each kid was off safely, and of course because they are too wimpy from the cold they gotta go inside right away right? Therefore thats the cause from leaving a kid inside a bus, in fairly decent temperatures...
It's alright for people that are used to those temperatures, but not for someone who isn't from that kind of climate, and even then it could still harm the individual. Someone needs to loose their job over this.
Yah, once you get used to the cold temperature, even in -25 below, I'am still in a sweatshirt, and all my class mates are as well. People think we're nuts, but it's not that cold, I haven't had a winter jacket since 5th grade. Since it never gets too cold here in Dortmund.
Except for the hypothermia part. Anyway, what would the teacher do. Kids are absent all the time, even if students saw them on the bus. I would blame the busdriver for not checking.
I don't understand how a child cannot be seen sleeping for two hours, on a bus while the temperature is subzero. Maybe the bus was vacant but even if it was the bus driver is crazy to let the child sleep unnoticed. The child, should not of been asleep anyway.
ive rode the bus for 5 years in arizona, the opposit maybe, but 120 degrees is nothing to sneeze at. ive fallin asleep a couple times and beleive me, the kids dont know you they dont wake you up, the bus driver doesn't keep track of who gets on, and the teacher doesnt know where the kid is so the kid is presumed absent, so in reality, its the kids own damn fault

But, the kid was in what? Grade 1? You really want him to take on responsibilty like that? (I guess so) But yeah, the bus drive atlest should know each and every student on the bus. Or the teachers for christ sake!.........
