The mail would mean certain people will get much, much more spam. Also this will mean more mail for the mods. The ignore list would be as Cenere says, abused.

We really want a way to be able to contact them, but if they NEED a warning and we can't give it to them through comments, then it's straight to the ban. So yeah. Closing comments is an "ignore all", and it has that problem too. We could have a block/ignore user function, if only it could not be used towards mods.

That is utterly lame. A block system that blocks out the rule enforcers? What real use is that? It doesn't block admins too, does it?
Yes, it does. I think it's been brought up, and at some point Shpigford should probably change it so we aren't blocked out... It doesn't give us any less power, it just means we have to be stricter against those users, since we can't warn them before ban.

Yeah, otherwise the moderators cannot deliver their message to warn you not to spam. Then they just ban you, and you end up suffering for your ignorance.
