it realy depends on the game i think.

depends on a racing game or a military game free play after you get far in story mode 4 me

Personally I prefer story mode if there is a plot line. I'm always held in suspense that way. Free play is the only option once you beat story mode, so it should be held in second regard.

In racing games, you usually are required to play story mode to unlock cars and etc.

I usually play story mode, especially first. I like to free play when I get bored of the missions.

My favorite though it when the game offers editing or customization, such as Warcraft III's map editor.

I like story mode when there is a good story, if the story is bad than is better free play.

depends on games like the cod series multiplayer is alot better

story mode is better only if its not FPS. Then going online is a lot better...which is free mode...

i like story mode most of the time cus some of the plotlines are just plain cool, but free play gives u variaty and u can do what u want vrs intelligent(more or less) people,

well mostly cuz of how many scenarios and diferent ways things can happen i say free play is better

Story Mode gets boring after awhile because you can't just mess around, and have to do missions all the time.

Free play gets boring because there isn't a point, and after you've tried everything there's no point.

A mix between both is the best, but if I could only do one it would be story mode.

Story mode tends to be the game's focal point. I especially like games with strong storylines and striking plots. I also like games that have multiple options to choose from and multiple endings. Makes story mode much better.

Free play, if good enough can be the sole reason why people replay games. Games with good sandbox/free play modes are very fun indeed.

For me, I am strongly torn apart by the two and unable to make a decision.

It depends on the type of game mentioned... But preferably i like Story Mode, Because it gives a full insight of the character's story.
