You can't bend rules if they're badly explained. "One thing" is a very broad topic. If you don't explain how the "one thing" works, it will be interpreted in almost any way you can think of.

A combination of things can be one thing. Salads are combinations of different things, and according to your rules, if I had chosen "eating a salad" as my one thing to do, you would consider that bending the rules as well.
