K so i live in a small town in oregon where there are a large number of mormons. So i would like the following questions to be asked, considering most of them dont make sense to me
1: Whats up with the concept of having multiple wives? Doesnt Genesis talk about one man one woman type stuff?
2:Joseph smith, the one who created the religion in the 1800s said he found a new testament or something like tablets but then the angel said he couldnt take them back to his village to show proof, so he came back and told everyone about it but how do we know he wasnt making it all up?
3: Mormons believe Adam and eve lived in missouri or Utah which is the "Holy land" and the bibles old testament takes place in the middle east, So unless they could make a boat then?
4: most mormons think caffiene is bad but when there religion buys out the coca cola company its okay to drink caffiene?
5: Lastly, i heard there building the first mormon church in Rome, the captial and heart of the catholic nation, which could lead to bad things...Also dont catholics and mormons hate each other?
Okay so if you can answer these thanks i just dont get much
1. Only fundamentalist Mormons still practice polygamy. It's not accepted anymore by most Mormon churchs.
2. That's what I think. Other's don't. Religion is about faith. Often, the proof is not there.
3. They believe Jesus came to the Native Americans, if I'm not mistaken.
4. "And again, hot drinks are not for the body or belly." (D&C 89:9). When people hear this verse, they think of coffee, which has caffeine in it. Thus many think that caffeine is banned by the Mormons. It is not though. Just "hot drinks."
5. It's called freedom of religion. I wouldn't say they hate each other. Most people are reasonable. They have definite disagreements though.
I knew of 2 Captains who roomed together in Afghanistan. One was A christian Chaplin and the other was a Mormon. They hated each other so much that they wouldn't even be in the same building other than to sleep.
1: Whats up with the concept of having multiple wives? Doesnt Genesis talk about one man one woman type stuff?
That's right, thelistman. We don't condone it anymore!
2:Joseph smith, the one who created the religion in the 1800s said he found a new testament or something like tablets but then the angel said he couldnt take them back to his village to show proof, so he came back and told everyone about it but how do we know he wasnt making it all up?
It was the Small Plates of Nephi. And Joseph had to wait for God's instruction. The angel was Moroni. Joseph made some mistakes so God told him to wait until the Book of Mormon was finished to show it to ANYONE other than himself and Oliver Cowdry. After it was done, Joseph showed the plates to 12 witnesses.
3: Mormons believe Adam and eve lived in missouri or Utah which is the "Holy land" and the bibles old testament takes place in the middle east, So unless they could make a boat then?
Not true. What you are getting mixed up is, America is going to become Zion after the return of Christ. And yes, there in proof in both the Book of Mormon and the Bible that Jesus, in fact, visit the people in the ancient Americas.
4: most mormons think caffiene is bad but when there religion buys out the coca cola company its okay to drink caffiene?
Caffeine is bad for your body. But, as for a Church stance toward it, they'd rather we not drink it, but it's our agency. We can drink it if we choose to do so.
5: Lastly, i heard there building the first mormon church in Rome, the captial and heart of the catholic nation, which could lead to bad things...Also dont catholics and mormons hate each other?
It's not the first Chruch, it's the first Temple. There's been churches there for years. It's just time for a Temple to be built. Yes, there's been many hours of deliberation about it, but now is the time. As for us hating Catholics, we don't hate anyone! We disagree, but it's not the same thing.
@Talo: That isn't what a Mormon should do towards someone of another faith, there was most likely more to it than just religion.
Whats up with the concept of having multiple wives? Doesn't Genesis talk about one man one woman type stuff?
That was banned. I think you are referring to the fundamentalist Mormons. When Joseph Smith died his family assumed that they would become his successors. They were wrong. This is not how it works. Brigham Young was chosen through revelation. Josephs family did not accept this and broke away from the Mormon church. The Mormon church which Joseph Smith help build up by the will and power of God is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints nicknamed The Mormons. Polygamy was banned by Wilford Woodruff the fourth president of the church and one of Josephs Successors.
2:Joseph smith, the one who created the religion in the 1800s said he found a new testament or something like tablets but then the angel said he couldnt take them back to his village to show proof, so he came back and told everyone about it but how do we know he wasnt making it all up?
He didn't create it. This is misconception by various churches. He claimed that God and Jesus came to him in a vision. The tablets you are referring to are the book of Mormon. He was instructed by the angel because he was only 14 and had much to learn before he could translate them. They were written in an ancient language.Note that he was ridiculed for this. He was tortured physically bu angry mobs for claiming to See God and Christ. Joseph is known to restore the fullness of the gospel. This is what differs L.D.S from other churches. It is not protestant. Joseph did not protest against the roman catholic church. Joseph and his family were attacked on various occasions by angry mobs. In one incident the mob covered him in hot tar. Not once in his life did he ever deny his vision. Do you think a man would endure such pain for the sake of something that was untrue? And why would other churches harm and kill Joseph? He never did anything to harm them and yet they prosecuted him and members of the church.
Mormons believe Adam and eve lived in missouri or Utah which is the "Holy land" and the bibles old testament takes place in the middle east, So unless they could make a boat then
This is wrong. Adam and Eve were in the middle east. The promise land in the bible is where the Jews lived but when they became wicked God curse them till they would repent.
most mormons think caffiene is bad but when there religion buys out the coca cola company its okay to drink caffiene?
You are free to choose. Anything in high doses is no good for anyone's health. Everyone knows that.
Lastly, i heard there building the first mormon church in Rome, the captial and heart of the catholic nation, which could lead to bad things...Also dont catholics and mormons hate each other
i agree with communist. there are so many different types of one religion that they give me a headache. and its not that their beliefs are fundamentely different, its usually something random like how the church should be governed or something like that. well i dont care i believe in my god and i dont need any church or person to tell me how to believe in him. *wow i guess that was really of topic..sorry about that, but i dont know anything about Mormonism*
It's not the first Chruch, it's the first Temple. There's been churches there for years. It's just time for a Temple to be built. Yes, there's been many hours of deliberation about it, but now is the time. As for us hating Catholics, we don't hate anyone! We disagree, but it's not the same thing.
Well i am Catholic and i have no hard feelings...i even agree with you guys on a few things.
All of these divisions from one religion start to make me think that religion has become just another way to be recognized for something.
I have noticed that this is what many people have concluded. Intensify your understanding of History and origins of different churches then you will see clearly and not be puzzled. * Fact most people who are in a particular religion do not know enough and some don't even know the origin of their own church. I am a very skeptical person. I do not like being old in what to believe. I do not believe something because my parents raised me that way as their parents before them. I like to make a thorough research of multiple organizations in order to determine my choice.
