This article is from the International Herald Tribune.
I first heard of this story in the popular TV series The Colbert Report, which appears on Comedy Central. Later on I went on Google and got this article as a result.
That just goes to show you - socialism doesn't work.
You can't generalize something like that. If I look at America's financial crisis, I can argue that capitalism doesn't work based just on the state it's in.
And while we're at it, capitalism doesn't work forever either.
Well, socialism and capitalism and anything really can work forever, if given the right circumstances. Unfortunately we are human and it isn't going to work because there are always going to be greedy people in the world. These ideas collapse because of people abusive a loophole in the system instead of fixing it. The ideas are not the problem, its the people. If we were such a great people, then the world would be communist and everything would work. We'd all work together and all have equal everything and enjoy. But people abuse, and are greedy, which ruins it. That's how it is now and always will be. :0)
The moral is get money as fast as you can and get out.

I agree with you on that Klaushouse. It is more about having pride and looking down on the people that are on the lower levels. Yes, the view can be great from up there but you have to remember that some of the rich people started at the bottom!
Flag That just goes to show you - socialism doesn't work forever Fixed! And while we're at it, capitalism doesn't work forever either. No duh.
Do any governments last forever Strop? Not at all. When has a country been exactly the same for more than 200 years? Never. Laws, civil rights, events, revoltions, greed, are all causing huge changes in the cycle of governments ( from Greek theories ).
And Socialism is supposed to become communism, not stay the same the entire time. Which is why I'm personaly a little more left than socialism. Communism would have been the final form of government by the middle of the 20th cnetury had the bourgeois infested USA, France, Germany, Italy, Britan, ( the list is quite long! ) cut in with the beleif and fear that the communists posed a huge threat to the power of leaders.
It turned out, in contradiction to Marx's radical opinions, that not all bourgeois don't care at all about the proletariat. They start workers unions and submit to the demands of the people. Marx said the people would rise up and over throw the bourgeois instead and start a commune. But his actually takes place in pre-industrial nations instead of industrialized ones, another contradiction to Marx's predcitions. Now comrades, does this mean that Marx was wrong about communism being a practicle government? No. It means that his predictions of how revolutions were supposed to happen naturaly just wasn't accurate. Or the United States greatly slowed down the prosses with a huge army and a huge, happy, brain-washed population with basically fascist-like ideals when it comes to defending the USA from the socialists.
