It's just so useless! If the time is 1:30 pm, why not call it 13:30??? The Swedish way is much MUCH more better. It just confuzzlez* everything if you do Pm and Am.
Now let us hope that you get out of your state of utter confusion.
Was that refering to me, because "utter confussion" does not fit "I understand it"... I do understand it, I learned it myself, since it is good to know, if you are online on international pages, like this. And many contries are not all. I could say it is weird you use the 12 hour clock, because there are many countries using the 24 hour clock.
Both seem simple enough. At primary school the 12 hour clock was used so that is easier for me. Strange that when you use the 24 hour system for long enough you don;t have to subtract 12 any more you just automatically see 14:00 as 2:00 pm, so no conversion is needed.
When we (Danes) talk to each other, it is rather unlikely we say "Meet me at 16:30", we are more likely to say "Half past 4" or, actually "Halv 5 (half 5?)" There is no actually problem, besides getting the am and pm right, and that is somewhat easy to learn, if you care enough.
Sorry I meant when we see it written down rather than spoken. I would guess that 12 hours is easier spoken in general chat (excludinh the army here) since there are more monosyllables in the 12 hour system.
We usually talk about it like it was the 12 hour system (just without am/pm), so yeah. Written there have to be some kind of indication of the time of day (am/pm, 1/13), because written it ends up being used after some time.
Time is just something to live with. Even though it is created by us. And controlled by us.
Apart from the few occasions you a rein some kind of sealed vault in most places you can tell by the light and other factors whether it is morning or afternoon.
I would hazard a guess that is why 24 hour systems are used in scandinavian countries that have prolonged periods of light and dark.
Actually, I find the 24 hour clock to take about a second extra to recognize the time, because everything nowadays goes by the 12-hour clock. If everything went by 24 hours, then we would go by 24 hours as well. I think it's 12 hours because they were too lazy to fit 24 numbers on a clock...nah...
