But anyway, onward to commentality, er, comment mentality. I have written quite a few page length comments. (They stretch from top to bottom of the browser window, so they're hard to miss.) I keep track of them to analyze what I wrote about and what made me write so much. Mostly it's just what I notice and suggestions for improvement. But when I go back to them, there are always a couple of comments about how my comment is very long or perhaps too long. Yeah, I know my comments are giGantic compared to others, say ~40 lines compared to those that are barely not even a complete sentence and two to four times longer than the next longest comment.
But can a comment be too long? Like McMansion long?
I know comments don't have to be so long, but if a comment can be too long, then does that explain or justify the very short comments (VSCs)? I notice other people may make suggestions and write their opinion on the music and other things (not in VSCs), but I'm sure if they decided to flesh them out and explain them a little more, they'd have much longer comments too.
Do VSCs exist because they conform to a popular mentality?
I don't mind VSCs. Sure, all they do is reiterate the player's rating without adding anything constructive but I don't mind. It just seems like some people are writing because others are doing it or they are just used to leaving "This game is good/bad/boring/etc." comments and not even that! And I'm sure they don't know or care to leave longer comments. Every time I see a comment on how one of my comments are long, I just think, "* I just want a(n even) better game."
Well there is a cap on how many characters you have so if it is too long your comment will just end up being blank, but I don't think it can be too long as long as the comment has purpose for being so long, and as long as it doesn't go over the cap.Other then that I can't really say.
I want to post "The Longest Joke in the World" comment, but I know for a fact it would take two posts to...erm, post it. It [the review] doesn't really need to be that lengthy, so long as you get your point across, and all the info you want to cover. You're not alone Gantic ; mine are Shintetsuously-long as well. Maybe people are just too lazy and are like "tl;dr, forget this", and don't even bother to vote it up or read it. As long as you give all the info you want, a review is a review.
Well, it is allways good for you to post as much as you can in one post. I was a bit confused as to if you ment in the forums, or on games. On games, YES! People get so pissed when they find them slefs haveing to scroll past your gicantic comment to find what people rated the game with out haveing to read through it all.
My longest comment was around 5000 words.....I had no problems with it being cut off or anything, so I dont think technically it can be to big. However if your askeing if for user happiness it can be to big then in some sittuations yes. for example, if I ask you what color is your favorite yammering on and on about why red is your jesus would not be very....well awsome. However if i asked you what your veiw on something was i would expect sometihn gother then a 3 word "Cause I do."
Hope that made sense...I have been know to type something, then read it and go..."O god, that makes no sense." Then I end up double or triple posting corrections...XD
