Hello all on AG. I just received two identical mail saying I won a merit (identical meaning they both mentionned the same merit) by this afternoon. I thought it was just an error and when I came on my AG profile I saw that my merits had gone up by one. The thing is:even though I only got one merit,I noticed that my A-points had gone up by fifty. I really shouldn't complain about it,but making a bugless site is more important than 25 Aps so I came to know if the cloned mail I received could be in relation with this strange phenomenon, and to say that AG should be investigating this since people could have points they don't deserve for example.
This has happened to another user as well, but I say it's a logical error. Are Mods double-clicking on awarding a merit, like how a user double posts all at once? Anyways, that user did the right thing and contacted an admin to fix it. You should do the same =)
Huh, that's odd. My guess would be that it's because of the same site work that have caused a few games to temporarily disappear... I'm gonna go with the "contact an admin" as well.

Who was that?
You can post a comment on your own profile and delete it. Your points will return to normal, as discovered by mrtim here when merits didn't add points, a reversed situation but the method still works.
I brought this issue up with Strop before when I received a doubled merit for my first entry in the Art Skills Competition and it seemed to be a rare occurrence back then with unknown origins. This seems to be happening much more often than before (still of unknown origin), or it's easier to catch now.
LOL. That would be hilarious if that has been happening.

Ah, I remember that. I think I know why Gantic got 2 merits for the price of one, though. It's to do with the way the AG server refreshes site info.
As you all know sometimes the site appears to lock up, so we feel compelled to queue another request (i.e. click on the link again). That's exactly what I did when giving Gantic a merit- I probably queued up two requests and the server processed them both.
That's my idea anyway, I'm not sure if it's true or even possible. But I do know that since some requests take so long to reach the server that I have time to even change my mind and do something else on the same page before the original request comes through.
It's the same reason some people accidentally doublepost.
Wait, I'm changing my certainty index from "unsure" to "relatively confident".
I just did a test on this thread. I queued a request to post. I noticed it was taking a very long time. But as long as a request doesn't time out, it will still go through as subsequent requests do not override the original one.
So I figured that I would see how many things I could queue up. So I locked this thread, then I added a sentence to the text field and reposted.
Not only was the original post posted, but the thread was locked and the edited post was also posted! You can't see the original post as I deleted it, and I've also unlocked the thread :P
This fairly confirms my impression. I'm not sure how this would work with regular users as I know that moderators don't have a 30-second freeze-out window, but I think that since regular users can doublepost, this would only apply after the queued requests have been processed.

Literally just before I read this, I did exactly that with a post. Gosh darnit.
