if you are getting your butt whoops repeatedly by a fistload of swarmers, o-rings or motherships you need this lil guide of mine.

First of, you need to prep a base. to do so, you need two things= minerals and power. as you start out with only a powerstation, i suggest you build a "fence" with a lot of energi relays. this will help you to keep you base defended. you should build the fence around a seizable amount of asteroids. remember that you are protecting 4 things, which are incredible important for you...
the powerstation, the powerstorage and repair station(these two buildings are very important for your succes in battle) and a lot of miners. every miner you make should be connected to the asteroids inside your fence. this is what youll be protecting, since when your miners die, you are completely screwed. as long as you have them it cant go all wrong. remember to upgrade them, so they mine 125% faster. now your mineral stock should be growing pretty steady( i recommend at least 1800 mpm) get yourself one energy storage and 1 or 2 repair stations. remember to place them so they cover all your things, and remember to upgrade them.

while this is going on, you should have some pretty basic defences build, which means basic laz0rs. they are pretty efficient even though they are basic. still i suggest your pretty soon evovle som of them into pulsers, since pulsers are good against most things.
then you should get some THELS. remember, that THELS in some cases are a lot more efficient than the missile launcher. a lvl 3 THEL can take down a mothership in 5 seconds. an obvious choise, since their firerate is better than the missile launcher. remember to keep your rep stations working.

whenever the asteroids inside you fortress is depleted, you just "move" it by making it again somewhere else, or you can just create another fence, linked to the fortress, and build some lasers around that, and thereby expand. a high mineral income is KEY to the last lvl.

I dissagree about your comment

a high mineral income is KEY to the last lvl.

A high mineral income is not key for the end at least. In the last five minutes you should not have any more than 2-3 miners active, and those should be up in your base. The best strategy is to, instead of building upgraded miners, build a crapload of basic miners and have them mine a single or two close-together asteroids before scrapping them (it takes some up-front cost, but it's free in the long run) expand your base to as much of the asteroid field as you can (for this strategy you MUST have quite a few power stations) qith NO lasers, except MAYBE for a few basic ones to defend against small incursions (or a whole lot of them for large fleets) and a VERY well defended core. This core should have at least two rings of lasers, one (inner, only a half-ring) THEL++ and one pulser++.

so, with this core, which, as most everyone knows, the enemy will orient themseleves on and get destroyed by, you don't need massive amounts of lasers defending your mining operation, because the enemy never reaches it. You pull back on the side they jump in on and then they get torn to shreds by your core.
NOTE: you may want 2-3 missile launchers (fully upgraded) in the middle of your core to deal with swarmers (have them siwtched off to conserve minerals as you won't be generating any for the last 5 minutes of the last level, because of the constant bombardment)

so, the quick version:
-Have a well defended core with 5 solar stations and a storage tank, two rings of lasers and maybe a few missile launchers
-don't defend it, move it!
-turn those launchers off if you don't need them!
-the basic form of ANYTHING is free (yes you can have 50 repair stations for a few minutes and then switch them to 150 lasers, at NO COST)
-power relays can be used as decoys in a pinch, but you NEED to set them up early, and they don't have to be built (those 50 ring ships on last level? raped by just a few thels and about 1000 minerals worth of power relays...) Though, I said last ditch because it is EXPENSIVE and you can't use this tactic if you either don't have any money left or the enemy is too close.
-only upgrade lasers

so, that was rather long... I hope it helps... I haven't beaten the final level, but I got to about 1:00 left, and I difintiely could have survived if I had used my startegy, wich I of course thought of while reading the game over screen. also, as cerealkiller pointed out, having two fully upgraded THELs could easily kill mother ships, but they take up way too much energy and can't be turned off.

Eh, two things:

...which game is this?

And I noticed the thread title contained a certain conjugate of the s- word, so I was forced to change it stat D:

strop... as it states right at the start, the game is "the space game", a relatively new RTS by casual collective.

If I were to write a comment on the game, the first thing would be how horribly it is titled.

I've been waiting for a guide like this, but I'll have to see if it works. Breezing through all the missions leading up to the final one set me up for failure X20.

LOL right, thanks tasselfoot, gantic. I completely missed that because, well, yeah, Gantic said it.

Minor thread title fix to prevent further confusion!

wait.... I was playing again, and I have decided to make a samll change to my winning stategy. the heavily protected core could be set up just like cerealkiller said with the ring of power relays, allowing you to defend it well and have some rocks inside.

so, does anyone have a better strategy than mine? also, you can upgrade miners if there are only a couple surrounded by a large amount of rocks.

first of, llamaea´s strategy looks great.

but again, if you have a second where your lasers arent blasting, which, you will, one or 2 energy stores are great!, you you will have more energy for the big fights

just did this for fun, but to illustrate the difference between the effectiveness of THELs and missile launchers against motherships and their cost, both in resources in energy, I tested three bases on level 6. A pure THEL base, a pure missile base and a mix between THELs and pulsers. Here are the findings:

Mixed base: I didn't have but one missile launcher(level 1, because I didn't have anything else to do with the left over money), so the base consisted of a power core (one upgraded storage tank and 5 fully upgraded solar stations) and two semicircles of lasers: 8 THELs in the inner ring and 10 mixed in the outer ring.
I could only fully upgrade half the THELs, so the base didn't have enough punch to take down more than three motherships before the started shooting. the then razed the base, overwhelming me because i didn't have enough power.
Verdict: this is not the way to go. You can't power your lasers, and You probably couldn't take them out even with said defences and a hundred power stations (well, if you scrapped the stations to build more lasers....)

Pure THEL: I don't know how many power stations I had, but I had two double storage tanks and as many THELs as I could fully upgrade (around 6-8) I started out strong, but eventually I was overwhelmed by the fighters.

Verdict: Really not the way to go. No defence against the fighters means you're dead as soon as they launch. also, not enough power.
What I learned: A THEL might actually be able to take down a mothership in five seconds alone. I had three concentrating on one and it got burned down after about a second and a half.

Missile pure: I had one maxed solar station and 8 Maxed missile launchers (I had around 3k resources left over. The missile launchers easily swept the skies... err, space of mother ships, sometime puring 20 missiles ant one trio of mother ships. They probably wasted a third of their shots, but didn't even let the fighters launch (except at the end of the first wave, the last ship to go daow just started launching fighters when it got hit by several missile, killing it and the splash killed the fighters)
Verdict: the way to go for this level, an easy win, simple to build and pretty cool to see.

so, take from that what you will, I think that you need to have a little in everything in regular levels, but a missile pure base is cool to see =P

It's kind of annoying how every fleet increases with 5 ships.

woah.... the last level was sooo hard. I figured it out: if you want to survive the last 6-7 minutes or so (you should do this at about tht time the motherships show up in that area) you need to have a base like this (this won't survive the motherships, kill them and then do this) I think this SHOULD survive: around 5 solar stations (maxed out of course) a double energy-tank and three maxed missile launchers. then just have a ring of pulsers around them at the second level. I could have had a bit more cash, but I accidentally built THELs and lost a few hundred resources there. NOTE: I kinda cheated here, because I had a couple of missile launchers out where my base used to be and they shot about 5-6 times total, and I had maybe 4-5 pulsers out there shooting the crap out of the fighters before they got destroyed, and about 20 power relays slowing them down. I also had a repair station, but it was poorly placed at the beginning of the round and It got destroyed by the exploders. The base that I described here helf together until it got ravaged by the ring ships, and half of the guns didn't even get to shoot at them. At the ring ships I scrapped a power station to rebuild, as I had about half my guns gone and I had one solar station get killed, along with a missile launcher.

so, that's sort of a walkthrough for the hard part of the last level. I did some calculating whilst walking my dog, and you need around 20000 minerals after scrapping everything (plus about 4 solar stations) to build a base able to withstand the assault easily.

its not that hard of a game, in my opinions there not much strategy,, just spam miners, and when enemys come, put missles around your base and spam lazers.
