As all of us should know, humans are at the top of the food chain. Should we really be there though? Look at some of the top predators in the wild. All of which could easily kill a human. So, really why are we located on the top of the food chain? Because of our intelligence or because we created it? What do you think?
P.S: Sorry, if this has been created before, but I thought it would be an interesting topic to discuss.
Well any food chain involving humans, humans are still on top. The only way I can see that humans should be on top is because we can disturb any food chain we are in easily.
Exactly, so we should be at the top of our food chain and leopards should be at the top of theirs.
Humans without technology are somewhere down in the food chain. Due to human intelligence and technology we are high up, (if not at the top) of every food chain we are in.
the reason humans are at the to of the food chain, is our ability to think, we've evolved the most, ironicly billions of years ago we were theorecticly fish. there no animal thats has a more advanced brain, well most of them do instinct-wise, but that dosent help them climb the ranks.
but next to human? im gunna say........ i dunno, dogs xD

i just like dogs, no science involved.
Yep. Without our intelligence we would be sitting ducks.
One top predator I could think of are lions. Lions though, easily fall to man made weapons and I think they could be consumed. I will never consume lions though.
I think it's rather clear that the use of the term 'food chain' in this thread's context encompasses every food web, not just select ones. Although seeing as there are tons of animals that humans don't consume, I doubt we would be classified as the 'top'.
We could eat leopards if we wanted to; we eat cows and chickens because they breed easily and are very abundant.
Heck, we can even eat other humans. I think we belong up their because we're smart enough to create such a list. As for defense without guns... we're pretty much screwed, but if we lived couple thousands years ago, it wouldn't be like that. We would have to defend for ourselves.
Well, without guns, you'd be surprised what an axe, knife, or even large stick could do. Hell, even putting your thumbs in the predator's eyes could possibly do the trick. But, I'll just be happy to stay at the top of the food chain with a rifle then see how it would turn out without.
We invented technology to survive the predators. Warning signs, education (do not go near a lion XD) and tranquilizers. The only thing lions have is speed and ferocity. They can't communicate to eachother and say "Don't go near humans, they'll sell our skins" so they often make the same mistakes.
The only thing keeping animals on their toes is Evolution... *thinks of a good topic to post*
We are on top, based on our intelligience compared with other species, and our ability to manipulate materials to our needs, such as making guns. You see animals in zoos not the other way round.
No, we are not. Even with weapons, we are still prey to big predators. If we miss, we are dead. As long as a predator see you as food, you are below that predator. We might have intelligence, but we are not looking threatening enough for predators to think at us as other than annoying food.
