This is a question for the mods, admins, or someone who has been around long enough to know the answer. Please don't post to explain why you think it's a stupid idea.

Would it be possible for us to edit our posts after they've been posted? If not, is it a matter of code or a matter of principle?

Barring that, if we could just preview our posts before actually putting them into the thread, I think that would help with a lot of little errors like typos and bad UBB code.

Thanks to the mods and admins for all you do around here.

This would be an excellent idea. Many forums have this feature already. There are some downsides but the benefits outweigh the disadvantages.

Editing posts has already been suggested before. I don't really know about the preview but it sounds like a good idea(preview)

The preview has been requested several times, and the reason it is always locked is because the forum is built from scratch, and they are working on stuff like that, but it will take a while. Be patient, we all want it.

And for an edit button... Users could post bad things and then edit posts before a mod saw it, so there would be no proof. Unless mods have an "un-edit" button. Which would be pretty sweet. But unlike other sites, we don't have the "modpower" for an edit button. At least, I think this is what the mods always say.

Some forums like these have logs that show when administrative functions like locking, stickying, deleting, or editing are done, so while you wouldn't know exactly what a person wrote, if a mod saw that a post was flagged and noted in the log that the user edited his post, that person could be warned or banned. And I understand that the mods work here on a purely volunteer basis, so if that's not doable, I completely understand.

I think the preview button would (for me, at least) practically eliminate the need to edit something. If I could proofread what I wrote before actually posting, I'd catch most of my typos, and I'd definitely notice if I mangled some UBB code.

Thanks for the positive feedback, guys.

What users always need to look out for is this thread.

Please check here before you come up with anything, as it might be a common suggestion. As it shows, the preview button is the first on the list. This is to prevent many threads about the same idea from popping up all the time.

well i'm pretty sure the original ould be logged somewhere at least for a little while? i think the idea is great but, as it has been requested so very many times, can we assume it is already being worked on?

This is a good idea, and something that I personally would like to see implemented. However, it is also an idea that has been brought up many many times. So please just know that we are aware that a lot of people like this idea, and hopefully we can implement this feature in the future.
