...It all started in England, 1970's. four members of a rock band worked together in an iron factory. Their guitarist was working a metal press, and the tips of his fingers were cut off. He still wanted to play guitar so he melted bottle caps around his fingers, giving the electric guitar a darker and heavier sound. And to compensate, the band produced a darker, heavier sound. This band is Black Sabbath, and the true creator of metal is Tony Iommi. Following Black Sabbath were bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. Metal grew from there, as the sound got heavier and darker. In the '80's, there was a glam movement, where bands thought that the manliest thing was to be a woman. Thus giving us Twisted Sister and Motley Crue. Many other metal artist condemned this movement. A big part of glam metal were the power ballads, i/e "Every Rose has it's thorn" The most reknown type of metal is probably thrash metal. Heavy, pule pounding, mosh pit music that grips the soul. Of course Thrash gave us two greats, Metallica and Slayer. Metallica is the most renown metal band, obviously. It is often said "Black Sabbath began metal, Metallica perfected it." In the '90's, rap was taking its push into popularity. metalheads compensated with Nu Metal. The combo of rap and metal that many people overclassify, i/e disturbed. They are NOT nu metal. The biggest nu metal band, in my opinion, is Slipknot. Their popularity is booming and still on the rise. Also forming in the late '80's and '90's was Death Metal, and Black metal. This is the shit. This is rock- you- to- the- core music that is fast, heavy, pulse- pounding, and earsplitting. Today, on the rise is Industrial Metal. It brings techno and metal together.
