Role playing game vs. first person shooter, in case you aren't quite geeky enough. Which one do you think is better? I personally like RPGs more, but I want to hear other peoples' opinions.
It realy depends on the game and what a feel liek playing at the time. I spent a long time playing only RPG and RTS games and im a bit tired of them, so currently FPS.
I play both RPG and FPS however I just love RPG and I would chose them over shooting games any time.
which genre you like better is a matter of taste. if you like shooting everything in sight or playing a mafia boss or soldier then you probably like first person shooters better, if you like to explore huge maps with almost no limits to what you can do then you'll like role playing games better.
In my mind FPS are a lot of fun because of the multiplayer package. They have so much potential due to Xbox Live and the PS3 equivalent, eg Halo 3 and COD4. They are also great fun to play with mates. Is there anything more satisfying than slotting your friend in the head with a .50?
RPGs though give you a great sense of personal achievement. Oblivion IV, in my mind the best rpg on the 360, took me around 72 hours of gameplay to complete. I became head of all 3 main guilds and completed most of the notable side missions as well as the main quest of course. There's just something very satisfying completing a massive game and thinking back to when you started out.
So, for solo play, RPG, for multiplayer, FPS. If I had to choose I would go for RPG, purely because Zelda Ocarina of Time was my first love.
It all depends on the RPG. If it's turn based then I think FPS is better since I'm not a fan of turn-based RPG's (except for Sonny). If it's an action RPG like Fable then I love it more than FPS. I guess it really depend on the games, I'm a fan of both but I think I like FPS more than RPG.
