If you could have only one sense what would it be and why?

If you could throw away one sense what would it be and why?

The 5 definite senses:
Touch
Smell
Sight
Hearing
Taste

If i could only have one I'd choose sight because there are ways to communicate and I'd still get to see pretty things.

If I could throw one away it'd be taste because most of your taste actually comes from your sense of smell.

I would have to go with sight as well (but if I was deaf, dumb and blind I could sure play some mean pinball) Even with nothing else you could still read and see all the amazing sights in the world.

Only from those 5 <grumbles about thermoception being a real sense> I thuink I will go with smell because William Wordworth had asosmia and he did just fine (he is also a relative of mine distantly)

Without all the other senses, how on earth would you learn how to read?

I would say it would have to be the sense of sound. You would have the ability to learn, plus you would be able to listen to audio books and music.

I'd keep sight. I couldn't bare not to see anything ever again.

And I'd lose taste, from what others have said.

Because I can read now. How did you think I was managing to respond to posts? Good guess work? I assumed you would have the rest taken from you rather than be born without 4 senses.

I see, I thought it was to be born with only 1 sense. Hmm, in that case, I'd probably still go for sound. I'd hate to never listen to any sound ever again.

Footnote: How would you lose your sense of touch without being severely paralysed?

Well I'm guessing you'd still be able to think about moving your body around and doing it, but you wouldn't feel it happening. This is one reason keeping sight is a good thing to do in this hypothetical.

I'd choose to keep sight for the reason I mentioned: it'd be easier for movement to be possible.

I'd choose to get rid of smell. Sometimes smelling stuff can limit what stuff you do, like trying new foods. Sometimes if a food smells too repulsive, you'll never try it. And then it turns out it tastes good anyway. Without smelling, taste may be limited, so then it'd be even easier to eat almost whatever.

I'd take sight to because how else would i play games or more importantly read this forum to answer this question (I think the people here are bias because of these) (I am tempted to go with touch but I'd be a target for theives

I'd get rid of smell because my sense of smell is practically dead.

I would keep hearing. Blind people without sight can still communicate since they can understand others and are able to communicate.

I would get rid of taste because it's the least important to living...

Probably smell. I would hate not being able to hear music, see beautiful things, or touch my keyboard to write.

I'd keep my sight. (Video games, computer, reading FTW)
If I kept my sight I could look at this all day ^.^

And if I had to loose one sight, yeah, it'd probably be taste because it affects you the least in life.

I'm sorry but if I was stuck with sense only then I'd rather be dead, imagine feeling numb all the time? yeah no thanks.

As for throwing one away, I'd probably do away with smell, taste seems least useful, but I'd never be able to live without frenchfries and soda.

hmmm...I'd probably lose site. My eyes are horrible anyways. I'd keep taste so I can taste pizza. Smell helps with taste. I'd keep hearing so I can find my way around, and if I couldn't feel anything...That'd just not work.
