Now as a note I get the feeling and am almost sure this has possibly suggested before, but it just popped into my head, this idea that people should be able to delete any posts they put on the forums. The reason is that this would help as a temporary fix to the double post glitch, and if someone makes a mistake,or find they said something that they look back at and see as inappropriate, then they can delete that post, and if they want to edit a post they just made, they can copy it,delete the post and repost it with the the new information.

Now I am going to try and think of any arguments against this idea.

Couldn't you just add an edit button?
Well this would not solve the issue of the double post glitch

Couldn't the mods just delete the double posts?
They are not always on,and people tend to flip out when people double post, even when it is not their fault, and they can not spend all of their time deleting these extra posts. Not only that, but it would not help solve the edit post issue.

Could Spammers abuse this in some way?
As long as it is programmed to take away AP,every time you delete a post made in a forum that is not a "No AP" forum then I don't see how,as any spam they made for AP that they delete, would only be saving mods the trouble, and if they care enough to not want to get banned then this shows they want to try to improve possibly and not spam in the future. A true intentional spammer, typically would not care and would get banned anyways.

OK, so thats about everything I could think of that people would try to use as arguments against this idea, but thats my suggestion.

hmm, well maybe there should be a time limit of deleting our posts. Because if you can delete your posts anytime you want, a lot of people might get confused.

You are correct, CrimsonBlade, it has been suggested. It's in the Rules and Common Suggestions sticky.
Moreover, it is the very first feature on the list, and since the matter of covering up the
excuse for spammers trying to hide spamming is finished, I fully agree with this idea. I'm sure
everyone does, they just have these suspicions that they believe outweigh the usefulness. Now
that this has been explained in detail, there should be no reason that the forum post editing
feature is a horrible idea at all.

OK while I do admit I didn't think the idea too much through,I looked at the list you referred to and to be clear it was post editing not post deleting. Those two are not exactly the same. Although I can not see any thing they could possibly be suspicious about with that feature either. The main idea with this was not as much to do with editing posts as getting rid of copies to save mods the trouble of taking care of them for you.

Hmm I suppose within the last 15 minutes or so seems fair, as sometimes it takes time to load pages, and if someone notices something after a couple of minutes then they should still be able to fix the issue.

Couple problems with this....

AP is programmed in for every post you make, the reason there are no AP forums is because they made posts not count when you post there.

and there's always a chance of someone deleting their post in an arguement saying that they "never said that", so I propose a little post being left there saying in grey text:
This post has been deleted by "username".

What about quotes?
Someone could just say they never said it..
