I use to be really into dadrock, but now i only listen to a few of them now(doors, david bowie, pink floyd and beatles mostly, if ever)

But when I use to listen to it, I would just listen to a band because of their influence of because they were omg popular or just because they were from the 60s-70s.

Examples: Led Zeppelin, I hated this band(still do), but i just wanted to be cool and like them because most people liked them.

I am just wondering, are any of you like this? Like some-what aged bands that haven't standed the test of time, but since they are influential you still listen to them?

I don't listen to influential music unless I enjoy it. If I hate the song, I don't listen to it. Simple as that.

No I listen to classic rock because it is brilliant, has a good sound and the lyrics mean something somehow. I love The Who but if I don;t like a song by them it won;t go in my Zen. Its pintless listening to something you don;t like to impress other people. If I did that I would have to listen to yugh... rap. People at my school wear paseball caps the wrong way round and wear random bits of jewelry (in England remember) and I'm there in my Beatles T-shirt. I'm the only person in my year at school with my muscial tasted and I wouldn't have it any other way. I wouldn't listen to rubbish I hate just to be a bit more popular.

all the bands today say ac/dc zepplin doors and whoever else they can think of are their influences meanwhile they're tight shirt wearing losers for example all-american rejects they say ac/dc def lep and bon jovi are their influences i'm sure if brian johnson ever met those guys he'd punch em in the face

i personally dig all kinds of music i can go from listening to nolan strong & the diablos to pantera i don't listen to ac/dc def lep zeppelin ccr boston or hendrix cause their influential or because its cool to listen to them i listen to them cause i truly dig their music

Well does that influence what music you listen too?

Also... I don;t care that the bands I listen to are massivley "influential" they could be nobody's as long as they make good songs I like I'll liste to them.

This is mostly oriented to classic rock listeners, do you listen to bands because they are from that time frame?

I use to disregard bands simply because they were newer. (I am no longer that way though)

No not really. I think it is a coincidence and a sad sign of the musical times that no good music has come out for a long time. I'm trying to think of a band from this millenium that I like. Franz Ferdinand were ok but bands like the Artic Monkeys or the Killers are rubbish. Not because they are new simply because there songs are rubbish (I got soul but I'm not a soldier etc. they might as well say I gor ham but I'm not a hamster). Before that Nirvana were immense and BritPop is very good. But bands like Oasis were heavilt influenced by the bands I like from the 60's. Noel Gallagher loves the Beatles. I looked at the artists on my Zen the other day and over two thirds are dead. If I liked modern music I wouldn;t have that problem. Again similar to my responce to your original question I listen to a band bevause I like them what era they came from doesn't matter.

No this is quite fun. I'm 16 (17 on the 21st) does that make such a huge difference? Like I say no one else at my school (i.e. people of th same age) like the same music I do.

I just noticed that a lot of people in middle to high school really enjoy classic rock and people in college like a more diverse kind of music.

Well I'm in college (technically 6th form) and I wouldn't and I wouldn't say that is necasarily true. Maybe it is an Enlgish thing though. All the people at my school are chavs and just go along with the latest fads.
