President Obama scares me on several levels. His arrogance in believing he can in fact, change the world... now comes this:

Quote:
WASHINGTON (AP) - The president's new science adviser said Wednesday that global warming is so dire, the Obama administration is discussing radical technologies to cool Earth's air.
John Holdren told The Associated Press in his first interview since being confirmed last month that the idea of geoengineering the climate is being discussed. One such extreme option includes shooting pollution particles into the upper atmosphere to reflect the sun's rays. Holdren said such an experimental measure would only be used as a last resort.
AP Newsbreak: Obama looks at climate engineering
Seriously? They are even considering INTENTIONALLY playing God and messing with the weather on a global scale?

This isn't some crackpot site, this isn't Tin foil hat land... they are really considering it.

However, I wanted to point out that the USA porbably wouldn't be willing to diminish its greenhouse gases emissions if some other major countries refused to do so, because thier economy would be definitely penalized.

Interestingly enough I recently read an article on the matter. It seems that there does not nescessarily have to be a toss up between the environment and the economy. Investing in science stimulates the economy and creates and retains jobs better than most other industries.

Of course they would, but not immediately. There would be a period where the costs would be higher that the benefits: and I think that this is what frightens our leaders.

That was also mentioned in the article. If breakthroughs in the area do not surface soon, voters will get impatient. However during these rough economic times, the creation and retention of new jobs makes the scheme to appear more politically palpable.

Do you by any chance recall where you read this article?
I'm really interested about it, because here in Europe we only get neutral (and even sometimes negative) reports about the situation in the States... sadly, we are a little proud because we are considered the leading nations in the matter, along with Japan, and so we often disregard the efforts made in the US.

The article was in an economist, about 1 month back. It seems that in the stimulus package, science and technology are recieving a very large capital boost. It examines what effect this would have on science itself and the entire macroeconomy. The point of the article was, succinctly, that if the gamble in investing heavily in technology pays off, the rest of the world will wish it had done the same.

For 8 years we suffered a president who pretty much failed to acknowledge the rest of the world's efforts, it's not surprising many Europeans feel smug/superior about it. In reality European nations have to step it up too. Japan is the only nation really pulling its weight.

Seems pretty obvious. It's curious though that they didn't consider this side of the issue before launching their plans to boost the economy. I would have seen the economic crisis as a good point from which to start developing the ecological industry... but I might be wrong.

I totally agree with you on that point. Japan have an advantage though, since they're forced to follow the ecological trail because of their landscape.

In addition to that point. Because, for so many years they were not allowed to have a substantial military due to WW2, they have been investing that $ into technology, so they are ahead of the rest of the world in that department too.

In my opinion Obama stumbled upon it. From his various speeches and press releases it seems his sceintific agenda was purely for tackling climate change. The positive economic side effects it would bring were not top priority when drawing up the plans. Still, I'm all for it if it gets done what it set out to achieve.

Pittsburgh, PA. The Super Bowl XLIII Champion Pittsburgh Steelers, the only team to win six titles, will soon be loosing half of those trophies. After a meeting between NFL Commissioner Rodger Gadel and President Barack Hussain Obama, Obama decided to redistribute half of their Steeler Super Bowl victories and trophies to less fortunate teams in the league.

âWe live everyday in the country that invented the Super Bowl.â said Obama âWe are not about to lose this Great American tradition in the wake of these difficult times.â Obamaâs plan calls for the Steelers, who are a successful NFL team, to give half of their Super Bowl trophies to teams that are not successful or have not been as successful as the Steelers. âThe Detroit Lions are just as much a part of the same fiber of the NFL as the Steelers and they should, no rather will, be entitled to a Super Bowl Trophy as well.â Obama explains in his plan that he has imposed on Godel and the NFL.

The Pittsburgh Steelers, who by virtue of hard work, excellent team play, stellar draft choices, responsible investing of free agents, careful hiring of coaches and excellent community service and commitment to their fans, have prospered greatly during the past 30 years and have won six Super Bowl Trophies. But President Barack Hussain Obamaâs plan calls for the Pittsburgh Steelers to carry the larger burden of the NFLâs less successful teams. Obama went on to further proclaim, âIn these difficult times we are all in this to work together. We must reclaim the NFL Championship Dream for every team, for every city and for every fan.â

âMy plan will not affect 31 of the 32 teams in the league.â Obama assures. Thatâs over 95 percent of the teams in the NFL will not have to worry about loosing any Super Bowl Trophies. âThe worst teams in the NFL and the teams that canât seem to get a break and win a championship will no longer have to worry about going without a title.â Obama promises. âWe are a country and league of hope. We all need to make a change. It does not matter the color of the teams uniforms, the personal decisions that the teams make or their performance but rather if they are a member of this great American league.â

The Super Bowl XLIII trophy will be redistributed to the 0-16 Detroit Lions. Through no fault of their own incompetence, the Lions could not manage a victory all season and this trophy will help ease the pain of their lack of performance and give them hope once again. The redistribution of Super Bowl XL trophy will go directly to the Steelerâs division rival the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals who also have fallen on hard times have never won a Super Bowl. This victory will bring a smile to hundreds of Bengal fans all over the world as they can now celebrate. Finally, one of the Steelerâs two Super Bowl victories over the Dallas Cowboys will go back to the Cowboys since the league needs to provide hope in the face of difficulty and provide hope in the face of uncertainty. This is a heavy burden for the Steelers but together we can all prosper.

All hope is not lost for Pittsburgh fans, Barack Hussain Obama has another plan in place. Obama has met with MLB and commissioner Bud Selig on a similar plan. The New York Yankees will redistribute two of their world series trophies to the Pittsburgh Pirates as a supplement to their loosing 16 straight seasons and counting. This plan will help stimulate the Pirates and enable them to regain the American Dream. Barack Hussain Obama will be meeting with the NHL and Michael Phelps in the upcoming weeks as this issue is high on his agenda for âHope and Change.â

Obama is going to clean up the mess that stupid bush made. Everyone says he isnt doing anythng but he has been in office for three months.

The mess Bush made? More like the mess OBAMA's going to make trying to 'fix' something that shouldn't be.

I couldn't stand republicans in the last election, I mean most of them didn't know anything about Obama yet still called him a terrorist and such. You didn't see us democrats calling McCain stupid things like that.

Also, most republicans didn't think that. Just the stupid ones. The real stupid people are the gullible ones that believed everything Obama did(and didn't) say, and got weird stuff from it. Try looking at different interviews. There were people talking about how they 'wouldn't have to pay their bills or taxes' if Obama became president. THAT'S stupid.
