It's what happens when only the most massive stars collapse, they're more massive then the stars that create black holes. Basically what happens is gamma particles (basically the most powerful type of radiation) are shot out in all directions. If one hit our planet i believe the statistics are are every surface on earth would catch on fire in 2 seconds, all life on the surface would die in 5 seconds, and all the water would boil in 10 seconds. But don't worry there's no stars that massive close enough to us to have this happen.

Yes samy which is exactly why I asked for a source or something. These things are rare and I don;t see how it could be coming without the circumstances you outlined.

It can't, not for billions or trillions of years, mainly becuase we'd have to wait for a new star to be born close enough to us then it would have to die, and sorry i didn't think anyone here knew what it even was, still pretty sure a few people don't. Sorry if i looked like an upity retard :P (yes upity)
