Many people find this game hard, so I'd like to give you some advice and other player should write theirs completing methods in this topic too!
My tips:
» Choose your own strategy! Yes, it is very important. My strategy: build only powerful gems near to each other, and I don't use traps at all. Also choose good places for gunning zones: better is to place you guns in inner part of corners, like that:
[]â¢
[][]

[]-road
⢠- gem tower
» If you can't complete level you should play all already open and completed levels in different or just same mode. This will give more magic upgrade points.
» Don't forget to upgrade your magic skills in "skills" category. Also upgrade that categories which you need in your strategy. For example in my strategy I would recommend you to upgrade "focus" to much, which gives you a lot of mana in beginning of level. You can already build 5-edge gems.

That's all I think, believe you find my tips useful and please submit your own

traps are not to do dmaage but for specials to work, and the best traps are mana leech and reduce armor, while mana leech work best when there are lots of monsters over them (R/O only, pure orange don't care about the number, they need presence only), the reduce armor traps work best when there are only a few monsters nearby, else there are too much monsters which flow past the trap without being hit once.

Poison is for swarms primarily, and it runs out of steam quite fast. I had a trap for 500 poison damage, the only effect was that critters turned green (though they still receive the damage, it was too small compared to 500k HP).

The traps that do damage are R/Y, perhaps these only, R/Y/L are promising, but they need to be 3 grades higher than just R/Y to do comparable damage. Their trick is the boost of firing speed and chance to do triple damage, which isn't removed from the gems for being in traps. Red is just for them to do damage to more monsters, and red is more reliable than lime in traps if the mob is tight. That 70% of chain hit while in trap returns 3 as the average monsters hit per shot, while red gives a good 5 or 6, depending on skill, which is stable contrary to lime.

quick question: what is the purpose of the large highlighted yellow text for only some of the modes when you place your mouse over a zone on the map?

I've found that traps are amazing.

With Orange, Red, and Dual Gem mastery -

Combine orange and red to the highest grade you can (depending on whether or not you have other color masteries maxed, this could be as high as grade 6), and place it in a trap where all the monsters will have to travel over (if multiple paths) or right up near the infested tower (if only one path).

Create more gems and use the gem bombs to turn them red and orange as needed. Combine until you've got the 279 firing speed cap, 8.4 mana stolen per hit, 38.5 area of effect gem you're going for.

Place the gem in the trap.

This gives you a 700 firing speed 6 multi-target trap that nets you a veritable ton of mana by the second. I usually stop at three of these, as it starts to slow down my computer in the later levels, however, more gems means more mana faster.

On my last run through the final stage, I only had three of these super red-oranges in traps farming up mana for me, and there were at least 20 grade 11 prismatics firing at the masses.

This works with more than just red-oranges.
red-purple will strip the armor off everything in sight.
red-green (amplifies poison effect) will work nicely as well, especially since poison effect keeps going up.

Cirno- One little trick: include traplayer and trap specials.

Now, for my own little spiel.
Wow... So many different playing styles... My head is spinning a little bit. I just know that, personally, I don't change my skills much from one level to the next, just from one mode to another. Call me odd, but it's what I do. My strategy is pretty much all OVER the map, all I know is that I only use green, blue, and orange gems in traps; everything else goes directly into a tower (unless there is some sort of extenuating circumstance). Hope that maybe I helped someone who plays the same way I did.

Traps are only useful in a few situations
1. if you have blue gems OR vs arcane guardians CYAN which can easily permanently 'shock' him forever.
2. If its a swarm level (use red/green)

uhhmmm... do the words mana farm mean anything to you? because that strategy use many red-orange supergem traps. and it's very helpful on all modes except sudden death, but still helpful even then.
