Introduction This story was created for another gaming forum that I left. It may not make sense to you, but I hope you enjoy it anyway. The Xgen Studios Story (Volume I) CHAPTER ONE
RING!!!!!! I looked up groggily from my bed wishing for a later alarm so I could dose a bit more. I shook my head and reached to turn off my LCD Alarm Clock, which has been ringing at 7:00 every morning for 5 years. I threw off my covers and fumbled around for some sort of garb. I finally found a reasonable turtleneck and denims, then I made my way downstairs. I fished for a donut in a glass jar in the kitchen, got my jacket and went out the door to go to work.
Itâs been like this for 3 years; the same morning routine. I canât change the pattern in which my life has made; I can only bear with it. Everyday isnât a new day. Itâs just a repetitive cycle.
I got in my $2,000 beat-up Ford that has failed to reach my expectations, but is the best that I can manage. I turned on the radio, switching to a soft rock genre. For a few seconds I forgot my life and just listened to the repeating beat⦠then I turned on the engine.
When inside, I went into the Menâs bathroom to change into my uniform that is issued when you apply. After, I bumped into Dan while shuffling behind the counter. Dan started up energetically despite the look of boredom on my face. âYo Skye, I had an idea, why donât-â âCome on Danny,â I said patiently, âIâm not really in the mood for talk; weâve got a busy day ahead.â Dan nodded agreeably, âI know I know I know, but seriously, I got to talk to you. Alone.â Despite my tone of voice, Dan took me by the arm and into the private office that is restricted to Store Shoppers.
In the brightly lit room, Dan began his âspeechâ.
âSkye, Iâve known you for 6 years, and Iâve worked with you for 3. I donât know if you are yearning to seek new opportunities in life, but I am. I canât live like this until I die; I want a new life. So a few days ago, I looked up productive jobs,â At this I started to roll my eyes but Dan looked serious, so I stopped. âYou know I always was interested in the gaming world? The times when I used to beg you to test my new flash games? Well I want to pursue this hobby into something more. I want to live it.â I looked at him with a different point of view; I saw a determined citizen sick (as I am) of the same life. Right there, I gained a reasonable amount of respect for my fellow co-worker.
CHAPTER TWO
I stopped talking and took a breath. Skye was looking at me admiringly so I guess he agreed with my sentiments. âIâm all for it,â Skye replied. âI use to have some knowledge in the gaming world myself; I agree itâs better than here.â I nodded my head trying hard to not smile too much. We both stepped out of the office and into the air-conditioned work environment, but not with the usual boredom, but with a determined attitude.
A few days later, we started to form a plan. Obviously we quit the lonely Office Depot (which is running out of business since we quit) and did other preparations to begin our ideal job. Skye called one of his old friends, Robyn, who was surprisingly obsessed with video games and wanted to join the âteamâ, and then I emailed Jordan with the details. The four of us, Skye, Jordan, Robyn, and I, were ready.
Currently, we were at Skyeâs house going over things. âOkay, first off, if weâre going to be involved with game creating, we need top of the line software.â Robyn began. I nodded and replied, âThereâs quite a few options, but they arenât cheap.â âI donât know about you guys, but Iâm not exactly rich.â Skye said. While we puzzled over the financial cost, Jordan was writing down slogans/names for the website. âWhatcha got Jord?â Skye asked. Jordan looked up from his notebook and said, âNow hereâs a couple of ideas but theyâre still in development. Obviously we need a name that gamers wonât have to memorize, and will be easy to say. I was thinking Molk, Vainer, Gen-â âGen isnât bad.â I interrupted. Skye shook his head, âIt sounds too plain.â âMaybe if we a letter before it?â suggested Robyn. âEgen.â Robyn and I said simultaneously. We all agreed on Egen to be our companyâs name, at least until we could think up a new one. After our discussion about the companyâs name, we went back to the money issue. Everyone nodded their heads when Skye suggested for each member of the team to put in $25 to start the website. I figured $100 is a substantial amount of money to get this business on its feet. Later, after we sorted out the other details, we went out for a drink. Our new job was in the makingâ¦
CHAPTER THREE
I glanced nervously at the ever-blinking monitor. Robyn was in the chair designing graphics for the website on a cheap $53 WebMaker we found at Walmart. It wasnât top of the line, but it was good enough. I have no idea why Iâm so uptight about a measly Egen logo⦠âYo Jord!â I turned around to reply to Dan. âYeah Danny?â âHowâs the logo going?â He asked. âOh⦠well Robyn isnât done yet. Although it looks pretty sickâ¦â Dan nodded and went outside to get some fresh air. Skye just got back from Target and had a big smile on his face when he danced to us from across the room. âGuys, guess what?â He said secretively. âWhat?â Robyn asked not taking his eyes off the computer screen. âYesterday, I remembered that I had a close friend who worked in Target a few years ago, we met when I was touring with my band. Turns out the Target he works at is the one I just got from. Okay now to the good news⦠heâs a graphic designer for Xbox games. I asked if we could get the software design program for half off, and he said yes!â We all stopped listening and jumped for joy at the good news. Things kept getting better all the time⦠CHAPTER FOUR
Years have seemed to pass between the first day Dan took me to the private office to talk, and now today: Uploading Egen to a web host. (Later, we decided to change the name to Xgen, just because Egen sounded too much like cereal) Surprisingly, itâs only been two and a half weeks. Robyn just got the information message, saying that the website was successfully uploaded. We all breathed a sign of relief and pat each on the back. It seems our dream has come true, even though we have no customers, no money coming in, and no games hosted on our website. We have achieved what we wanted to do⦠live life.
The End
...It's quite a long read, and I doubt you would take your time to read it. But I worked hard, and I decided to showcase it. If I made grammatical mistakes, sorry. And yes, it is reality fiction, I all made this up.
If there's any requests for the second volume, I'll do it.
Hmmmm. . .this is interesting so far. My only piece of advice would be to spice up your sentence structure, as you typically begin sentences with the word 'I.' This causes a bit of a choppy flow after a while-though this smooths out a bit as the story goes on, it still lingers there. ----------- The characters aren't incredibly well-developed either, though this seems intentional. ---- Overall, this story is great, but there are a few small hiccups in the flow at places.

Thanks thisisnotanalt. Funny enough, a different person said the same thing.
