I'm not exactly sure what their correct name is.

Are threads stickied if the moderators see potential, or do you ask? I'm just curious.

Thanks,
-Justin

I think they are stickied if they serve a purpose beyond general discussion, if you will.

You'll notice that the forum rules are stickied, along with other helpful reference threads.

Stickies... Yeah, that is their official name. You could also call them 'Pinned Topics'

Anyways, stickies are general notices. Rules, guidelines, etc. That is what gets stickied.

I asked for the announcement board to be stickied, mainly because there is rather few announcements, and people should get a chance to keep up with those there is.
But yes, any helpful thread, rules, yadda... And what people should read, which they do not, and what the mods would like us to see.

As well as threads of a certain purpose, but without frequent updates (Announcement board, MWT FAQ)

I wonder...can stickies be unstickied? Like after they have served their purpose, or do they stay there for all eternity? Or at least till this AG is here.

They can be unstickied, just like topics can be locked and unlocked. The only thing that is permanent is deleting.

Well since helpful threads can be stickied, is it alright if I ask if a moderator could sticky a certain topic? Since there's a good chance he missed a thread.

i think that only there threads can have stickers and even then only some of those would be "stickered".

Yeah, if you make a guide or important notice you can ask a mod to sticky it.

Nope. Other peoples threads can be stickied, look at the announcement board in the tavern.

Yes, as the rules and common suggestions thread sticky has been updated once where it said 'UPDATED' on it. They can be edited or deleted or unstickied, as long as mods consider them no longer useful, or a better thread has been made for them.

Yeah, if you make a guide or important notice you can ask a mod to sticky it.

I disagree: I have never seen a guide or manual stickied except the rules. All other others either disappeared quickly or became so popular they stayed on the screen like stickies themselves.

Art section, MWT FAQ. It is mainly a guide.
Art section, Official characters. A guide as well. Or collection of characters.
Any of the official contests. Those are not rules as well.

The tavern has had a number of "How to become a moderator" and so on, which has been stickied, but unstickyfied after a while.
Oh, and the announcement board, and the FF thread.

The newcomer's section has it's "Introduce yourself" thread, which is not rules either.

So it is possible for those to be stickied.

Double post as all, but forgot the star example of a stickied guide(s):
Tutorial Thread
Also found in the art section.

Yes, we are off there.

Most of the time, it is the moderators who create the stickies, for they need them for some purpose. These include basic rules and regulations, or perhas an event that is currently taking place. Basically stickies are just important threads that the staff doesn't want to let die.
