While Sony already admitted to be thinking about the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo are no doubt developing a Wii 2⦠In an interview with the head of Microsoftâs Interactive Entertainment Business division, Peter Moore, EGM magazine asked him when their next video game console would come out, and also asked if theyâd drop support for the Xbox 360 like they did with the original Xbox. He said that they were going to support it âas long as it sold.â Possibly because they saw the Xbox sell well into 2007 despite not producing the console after October 2005.
He said the production team from the Xbox 360 is working on the next Xbox 720 [our pet name], and their looking into what kind of CPUs will be available on the market in 2011-2012. That would put the Xbox 360 at a lifespan of 6 or 7 years, a far cry from the Xboxâs 4 years. After spending $1.26 billion in losses launching the Xbox 360, theyâll want to get the most out of the system by lengthening its lifespan. As the longer you get into the cycle, the more profit you can make due to stopping being a loss leader, analysts always remark.
On June 13th, 2008, Robbie Bach â" the President of Entertainment & Devices Division at Microsoft â" mentioned the next Xbox by saying: âOur view is we will be selling Xbox 360 for a long time. We are always working on new technologies. We have people working on those. People ask me how many people I have working on the next generation. On the one hand, itâs everybody. On the other, itâs nobody. People are continuously working on new technology.
We started thinking about the next generation before we shipped the Xbox 360. It doesnât start with a date. It starts way upstream with silicon development. From that comes a series of data points. You start making early technology choices. Itâs an evolving thing. Stuff doesnât become concrete until you get inside a window of when you have to ship, more than 18 months or so out.â
I believe the original name was based on it being all-around better or something, but all I know is that it is a pet name and there have been rumors of it going by another name besides the Xbox 720, but with all of the virtual reality stuff that has come out the last couple of years....the next generation will most likely be ridiculous.
first of all they arent making a xbox 720 yet that xbox 360 is already doing good better then i ps3 but i due know that there will be a new ps3 called the ps4 and the new wii will be the wii2 and the psp is the new silver one.and the new game of the call of duty modern warfare2 u should get for the xbox 360
There is a nex XBOX in development but it isn't set to even be thought of by gamers till 2010-2011 this gives the 360 a longer lifespan the the XBOX which was only there for about four years, the 360 will be around for about seven before it becomes outdated and is sent into the golden ages, lol.
They are working on a portable XBox, not an XBox 720. Sony is making a PS4. And if you mean the PSP 3000 then that's already out, I've had one since October 16th, but there is a PSP 4000 in the works, it will (supposedly) run on a nuclear battery, and will have a better connection with your modems.
