To say something about the topic before people start to complaining about "all caps". : )
I don't know how to understand it. Maybe those are not literally facts but stories in metaphors from which believers should learn lessons on how to behave in life. Some people interpret it that way.
This will no doubt end up being an opinionated debate, but I think the information in the Bible is real. Now obviously there's no proof that it's real, otherwise we'd all be lining up for salvation. But the morals in the Bible are morals that have logical reasons to be enacted in today's time anyway. It shouldn't appear a coincidence that the Bible contains morals we should follow. Besides, even if it wasa coincidence, we should all be following them anyway, regardless of religion. I know some people may argue by saying Christians have done horrible things in the past, but Christians aren't the Bible. Christians are the ones who believe in Christ, even if they make mistakes, even if they detach themselves from Christ, they aren't the teachings of the Bible. I know other people may argue that the Bible has God "smiting" his enemies in the Old Testament, but may I remind everyone that that morality was in a certain time and place. Now that the gates of heaven are opened, justice is no longer defined by killing the violaters of the law. I believe the Bible tells the way we should act morally, thus the information is real, even if the events can't be proven.
Ok it is definately real. I am a christian and all that I believe is in the bible. How can these prophets hundreds of years before predict something then it happens just that way they predicted. It's real. God is real.
I believe that humans are flawed. The bible was originally passed by word of mouth rarely written down then a bunch of priests got together, took all the stories and decided what should make it into the bible. There's archaeological evidence proving most of the stories in the bible at least happened. I don't think its 100% accurate but for the most part i believe its true.
As said I believe it is a good story containing good morals and can at best be taken as a metaphor. I was learning about different views on transubstantiation it is a case of when do you stop believeing the literal that IS the body/blood of christ and see it in a symbolic way.
"In the bible it says 'And God said let there be light' don;t you think that could be a metaphor for the big bang.""No god just went click" Robin Williams (sorry but it fits, sort of)

I'm glad you think so. Bible's point is to teach us something about how to live, so it's just as good to take the morals from it.
It's a riddle in every paragraph. The bible is also letters, people that worked years to right things in the story of jesus were all in one way biased against something. Most religons made biased bibles so that people belevie in stuff that really never happened or were written another way. The bible is the easiest way to belevie in something.

I agree with you there, there is a little biased-ness in the letters (sexism, for example), but I think you'll find in the Gospels, since it is more about what they saw and less about what they thought of it, it may have less riddles and more morals to abide by.
