Can someone explain to me the significance of hues, for both gems and monsters?

Probably just means their color only. I made a small study but I didn't really see any difference in damage with a red hitting most hues.

I think the hues like change damage or something with pure gem mastery.

AFAIK certain hues do better against other hues, and worse against some. Not sure though

It's all about complementary colors! So, when a monster is hit by a similar/same color-there is little to no damage. When a monster is hit by an opposite color/non-similar colors (lime lime v. purple) more damage will be done.

Trayzrulz, were talking about hues, not colors. Meaning red No.xxx and red No.yyy. They must do something...

Hues are shades of color. If you look, red xxx and red xxy look a little different (a little darker/lighter). I am pretty sure that the whole point of having various hues of the colors is to mathematically calculate which monsters/gems are perfect opposites-hence making more or less damage.

In the first gemcraft the closer the color/hue a gem was to the color of the creep the less the gem did to the creep. If the colors of the creep and gems were opposites the gem did more damage.

Hue is one of the three properties of a color (of the light spectre).

In addition to the hue, there is the saturation and the lightness. In the image, 360 hue = 0 hue

jha a green gem is more effectively against a monster with a red skin then one with a green skin. once I had only pure bleu gems, then a wave of blue monster came, and I didn't even kill one. xD , I had them all like grade 6 or something, but still the blue ones didn't die.

Here you have the best towers to damage each colour better percentage, the opposites colors:

Red-Cyan
Orange-(Dual Cyan-Blue)
Yellow-Blue
Lime-(Dual Blue-Purple)
Green-Purple

A formula to know the opposite colour:

Hue = OppositeHue - 180

(If Hue value gets below 0, then add 360.)
