Everybody in the flag burning thread seems to have a fairly different idea on what a flag represents to them. So I figured that make a thread where you can discuss what you think flags stand for to you.
For me I hate flags, I think flags represent segregation and nationalism. There is a fine (some would say non exsistant) line between nationalism and racism and before any kind of peace on a global scale can be achieved this mentality, and the respect for the flag, must disappear.
Skinheads are world wide... Like I've said before I'm a skinhead and look at my views. skinhead does not equal patriotism, racism or an political influence at all. It's just a sub culture... Nothing more, nothing less.

I don't think we're on the same page. When I use the term 'skinheads', I am referring to the British racist group that was rampant throughout the 80s when I was growing up. I am a skinhead myself, if all you are going on is having a shaved head, but yea, sorry for the misunderstanding.
I was more refering to working class pride, braces, ben sherman shirts, docs, listens to ska etc etc.
Are you refering to the National Front? I find that alot of racists are also skinheads due to their background. But the media often refered to the National Front supporters as just skinheds. I figure it's mainly because they look more intimidating so the media can twist everything around more.

I see. Well I guess I retain the first characteristic, working class pride, but no so much the fashion, just the hair.

The thing is, in Britain, I'd say 95% of 'skinheads' were in the British National Party/Front. That's why they have the negative connotations. It's not so much like that any more, but the prejudice is still there. The problem with football hooliganism we had over here in the 80s contributed to the bad image too.
Then again in other countries I don't know how they are seen, but definitely in England skinhead=racist, for better or worse.
Yeah, I get called a nazi all the time. A few weeks ago I was in a pub and a guy came up to me, asked me if a was a nazi and then pulled his shirt down to reveal "One people, one struggle" tattooed along his chest...

Don't get me wrong, skinheads are violent mother fuckers. Just not descriminating violent people. Well, for the most part they are. I wouldn't consider myself violent though. I mean, I'll go toe to toe with somebody if the situation calls for it but I don't see the point in looking for violence.
I do find the negative connotations amusing though. By assuming I'm a racist they're the ones being xenophobic.

Ha, talk about the best methods of getting barred. I was in Germany not long ago and there were a fair few Nazis about. It was amusing.

I operate on the principle, if someone else starts it, you finish it. Most people who do the business aren't the ones who are always on the muscle anyway.

This has nothing to do with that. Did you even read the OP?
I think he is talking about the serbia flag thing that he mentioned on the forst page of this. I'm not sure why it hasn;t been chaged but Firefly is right we need to stay on topic.
