Lat at night, I laid in bed and thought of an idea. I thought some more about it and finally came to the conclusion that it would be useful and very effective:
Thread Packages
Very similar to mini forums, thread packages are a 'ackage' that contains multiple threads in them. The idea is that dead similar threads and topics can be easily all found in one place without searching too hard. Say for glitches:
There could be a package called 'glitches' containing all of the threads that talk about glitches. They could all be on different glitches but all are glitches.
It would help in reducing spam too because then people can see if their topic has been accepted into a package because it is useful.
Hmm...it may lead to confusion and alot of work as the threads have to be resorted.
There would be many sub categories and as it is, some people still do not know where they should place their threads in. The Forums could get messy, not to mention the possible lag, errors during the reconstruction phase.
Plus, there are already stickies for certain important topics.
It might be confusing but I think it will work. Although, where would we put these packages?
That's the confusing aprt. Do we sort them by date? Alphabetical order? Do the packages stay at one spot, or do they shift according to latest post? Plus if it's in alphabetical order, a search must be implemented or the thread might be lost. Plus, we won't which package the threads about the latest news/events are in.
I like the idea, the only thing is that I like to be able to see all the different threads at once. I think that your idea would probably make it easier to navigate the forums now though.
I'm having second thoughts on this idea. I like to see all threads at once. I don't want them to be organized anymore. It would be too confusing to deal with all the threads. Who would decide to put the threads in a package?
I'm glad the forum developer already thought of this, but anyways : He tried to make the forums as easy-to-use and accessible as possible. Yes, we have computer geniuses about, but there are those that are young and just want to play games and might want to check to see if anything is going on in the forums. This is why we have categories and forums, and that's it ; no child forums and packages.
I can see that in some way these packages could help, but again, maybe these would be allowed if say, we were a gaming clan, with the packages giving different types of the games we would play, and sub-forums giving specific games all in one "RPG" forum. However, we are a gaming community, with the age minimum of 13. Therefore, to insure that people will find this site great, appealing, and easy to understand, we take the board and make it less specific than others. Probably haven't noticed for some, but the board is accessible to guests, meaning people might want to look at guide, or see if there is a new game out, or if there are any glitches to be notified of.
If there was anything important to note, that's why we have the mods and stickies. They qualify as a package to me, seeing as there are some that bunch many things together to have as many questions answered as possible.
