I think this is my fourth new topic so good going...
I don't pretend to be an expert in music or really know anything about it much past what I like and dislike. So I was wondering what people here think of classical music. It can be a broad term ranginf from 8th century work to the present day. However I specifically mean music from the "golden age" from Bach to Beethoven.
What do you think of the genre/genres? Who is your favourite composer? And what is your favourite piece?
Personally I like Griegs piano concerto in a minor. It just sounds nice and has many changes in style.
My lack of musical knowledge and terminology fails me here but it is beautiful none the less. I never used to like classical much but this piece of magic by Bill Bailey really got me listening to alot. Beethovens Moonlight Sonata is a favourite of mine also and is very relaxing and just so beautiful.
nb try to keep responses a decent length (if ther are any responses)
I'm not going to hate, but I don't listen to classical music. It's been awhile, but I can recall that it is the oldest genre of America, and a lot of other countries as well. Is classical music the reason we have rock? I don't know. Rap and R&B comes from Africa...O_o
I'm not much of an expert as you Pixie and, as you said, I know only what I like and dislike. A lot of classical melodies are familiar to me and I know that I have heard them before but I can't name them. I have that "101 classics" that has been aggressively advertised on TV. Pieces that I listen are those slow relaxing ones. This is my favorite.
Cockney Beethoven. He doesn't show connection between cockney and classical music but combines those two. Offtopicness: Why does my cursor keep disappearing on youtube?

Bill Bailey is a comedian I should have added that, the clip was just a joke cockney has no influence on classical music. funny though and he is great on the piano
Why does my cursor keep disappearing on youtube?
I think it is just an update. If you put your mouse on the screen is disapears so it doesn't block the video. If you put it on the time bar it shows the time you are hovering over in a little box
I like Classical music, sometimes I'll listen to it when I'm really bored though. I don't know much about classical music though, only know a few of the famous composers like Beethoven, and Bach.
My favorite Piano piece would be Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven aswell. It rains a lot where I live, and the song really fits. Slow, relaxing, kinda sad.
Though my favorite period of times are early baroque and romantic
Giovanni Paolo Cima Has some wicked cool recorder compositions. Dario Castellos Sonate concertate / Il Giardino Armonico are probably my favorite
I do love me some Beethoven as well though. Mozart inspired a lot of neo classical metal so, he's up there as well. Anything on a harpsichord gets me off as well lol.
If linkin parks song "In The End" on the piano with no vocals is classical then i like that. Its very peaceful when coupled with soothing images of water and bunnies. Especially the bunnies.

Just because it's played on a piano doesn't make it classical..

Hm...I find that a bit like Tchaikovsky's piano concerto in Bb minor, it's got a fantastic opening and flashes of greatness but everything else seems a bit forgettable :\\
I'm not sure One Wing Angel (or most stuff done by Uematsu) actually fits under a strict definition of classical music. More to do with film music and videogame music. Also I prefer Liberi Fatali :P
Cool I'll have to look that one up. I'm trying to think of someothers. eeerrr... Beethoven 5th Symphony is great the intro is famous but the rest feels nice (somehow) nice and encompassing like it surrounds you. Tempest by (again) Beethoven is ok mainly for the intro and the piano work. Liszt is reasonalbe the Mephisto Waltz (I think) is fun too listen to parts of it seem simple at a glance but it eveidently isn;t
