This is an open discussion on The Holocaust.

I thought it was absolutely terrible. Hitler is the sickest human being that was on the planet.

DDX: Wearing pants and underwear is not intrinsically immoral. The mass murder of an entire ethnicity is. There's a bit of a false analogy there.

As terrible as it was, the holocaust did catch the attention of the US and a prompt entrance into the war. On a bit of a morbid note the killing of 6 million did do some good.

If you actually studied history, or paid any attention, the allies were not aware of the death camps, nor the 'final solution' for the.. 'undesirables' (an additional 6 million people who weren't jewish died in those camps too) until very late in the war; long after all of the participants had committed to the conflict.

I'm not sure Hitler was the sickest human being to ever live, but he certainly lived in an age where he wielded the power and technology to commit atrocious acts of villainy.

There are many other legendarily horrible human beings
Countess Elizabeth Báthory of Hungary was a sadistic woman who tortured and killed an uncertain number, somewhere between one & two hundred people, speculated as sexual pleasure. It was said she enjoyed bathing in the blood of virgin women; such that it would make her appear younger - that however, is disputed as legend rather then fact. Both sides have reported witness testimony.

Did you even study elementary school history? You know, Hitler took down the 'no Jews' signs during the Olympics to mislead people- the death and labor camps were discovered late in and after the war. . .Pearl Harbor is the main reason for US involvement.

I think it is a terrible event that probably should have never happened. They always talk about The Holocaust but yet Stalin kill 20 million i think?

and Mao zedong's cultural revolution killed around 10 million Chinese. Yet because the holocaust is promoted more, is because of the atrocious ways of killing them. And also because it was the only war that was fought partially due to genocide, (and america was in it so that makes it important)

*cough* Yugoslavia.

They coined the term 'ethnic cleansing'.

The USA was involved with the UN & NATO action & peacekeeping, they also arbitrated over treatise. I'm not sure where you're going with that.

And Gaga, if you have something to say to me that's relevant, go right ahead; I'm listening.

Reports of mass killing were coming out of Eastern Europe as early as July 1942. The British Times reported 700,000 Jews to have been killed. The current foreign secretary dedicated an entire Parliamentary session on the matter. It's not that the allies didn't know, but that the best way to have stopped the killing was to focus on winning the war.

Also, @ Hidden, Gaga is Serbian. This should be good.

It's not as though it was front page news. The British Times deliberately kept that information to brief, point form, buried deep in the paper. Why? They didn't want to seem 'jewish'. Additionally, the allied military intelligence community had information, but much of it was dismissed due to the outrageous nature of the claims. A lot of propaganda was slung about during WW2; but the death camps were not widely publicized. The original point that I was refuting - that the USA joined the war to stop the holocaust, is still inaccurate.

Why should I care if he's Serbian? You think I get offended when people tell me Texas has the highest rate of executions in the USA? The term originated from a serbo-croat expression 'etniÄko ÄiÅ¡Äenje', a term that was being used by the media in Yugoslavia to describe the genocide that was occuring.

Because I assume he'll have some strong views on the matter.

That I can agree with .

Strong views on the origins of the term 'ethnic cleansing'? I'd sooner get angrier at the coining of 'sausage' or 'brick'.

Though, you have given me an idea for a different thread.

Cheers.
