The Ten Axioms of Choice Theory

1. The only person whose behavior we can control is our own.

2. All we can give another person is information.

3. All long-lasting psychological problems are relationship problems.

4. The problem relationship is always part of our present life.

5. What happened in the past has everything to do with what we are today, but we can only satisfy our basic needs right now and plan to continue satisfying them in the future.

6. We can only satisfy our needs by satisfying the pictures in our Quality World.

7. All we do is behave.

8. All behavior is Total Behavior and is made up of four components: acting, thinking, feeling and physiology

9. All Total Behavior is chosen, but we only have direct control over the acting and thinking components. We can only control our feeling and physiology indirectly through how we choose to act and think.

10. All Total Behavior is designated by verbs and named by the part that is the most recognizable.

Well there they are, what does everybody feel about these?

thought provoking but at second look its relatively mundane i don't think human behavior can be fully understood or expressed in 10 points

I do agree but these are ment to be considered as either self-evident, or subject to necessary decision. Choice theroy was dervived if not just a name change, from Control Theory. The basis of Choice theory is behavior is central to our existence and is driven by five genetically driven needs almost indentical to thoes of Maslow.

My understanding is that we go about our daily lives thinking that we are in control, but in reality we are never in control.

true, there is the feeling, and sometimes the choices we make are skewed based on the perceptions we make by our surroundings. Such as I could punch my self right now to say to you "ha I can make my own decisions", but the decision was actually affected by your comment that "we are never in control". If I had not seen that, I would not have proposed to punch myself, or did so right now. *ouch*

There are circumstances where this is incorrect~
--------
3. All long-lasting psychological problems are relationship problems.

Depends on the usage of the word 'relationship' in this context.
--------
2. All we can give another person is information.

Depends on the usage of the word 'information' once again.

I say that the point of the "free will" and "fate" thing is very simple...

Yes, you're actions are set, but they are still you're actions...basically it's like saying "You're actions can be predicted"--It doesn't mean you don't control your actions, it just means that what you want to do, you're gonna do. Not that scary, after all...
