hmmmmI half agree with the_manta
RunDMC created rap, tupac made even more popular than it already was. since then it's changed a lot(for better or for worse you can decide) personally, I like rap. Kanye, TI, lil wayne, J Holiday. . . they are all talented modern rappers...BUT they are getting off track. they start focusing on women and sex. I can understand a song that admits mistakes and talks about those kinda things. but when it's just a song that basically says, "I'm gonna go to a club, find some girls, and **** them"...yah see where I'm going with this. every now and then a rapper will make a good rap song. when they do, it is typically better than a good song in any genre. Rap is one of the most powerful forms of music because they focus on the lyrics. I'm not saying that music isn't meaningful, but the standard person is liable to take away more from a rap song than a 5 minute guitar solo.
I guess what I'm saying is...Rap can be the greatest form of music because anyone can write it, anyone can understand it. But it has to stay on the focus of life, love, history, and happiness...not sex, drugs, gangs, and violence.
