Alright. I've been playing on the original Gemcraft for quite a while, and like many others, I'm stumped on the first epic level. I looked up some tips 'n' tricks, but all ultimatly failed in the end. Does anyone here know how can you beat the distorted and his horde of minions once and for all? Before you answer, I think you might need to know two stuff:

-I'm level 25 (most are around level 19 or so)
-The Gemcraft I'm playing is the Newgrounds version. So that means anything related to the Armor skill is out of the window. I would go ask there, but for some reason I'm not logging in.

*sigh* So, any suggestions for an embarrassed level 25?

P.S. By the way, don't ask how I got to that high level *cough*glowingframes*cough*

Perhaps you need my skill set-up:
-Max Initial and Max Mana
-7 points in mana gain per kill
-Max Mana Gain over time
-Max Basic Starter Gems
-Max Lowering Mana creating/combining cost
-Gem bombs haven't been touched

I think this is the set-up.
Hopefully this will help you out.

max lower gems creation cost, max initial+max mana, max lower grade starters (you need em early on), max mana gain per kill. Get an early orange ASAP and an early purple as well, after that pump the grade of all 8 gems with pure gems to 5 or so, then go combine each of them with grade 1 same color gems by 10-6 waves before the epic boss. Add traps into the killing zone and place your purple so that it will cover the most of the path and the entrance , thus it will have chances to drop the boss's armor before the other gems will fire. You should do killing him in a single pass. Don't forget to pump the mana pool every time you have a window where monsters fail to cross your lines of defence by a big enough margin to send an early wave. You should pump it at least until you will have 20k maximal pool, so you would earn enough mana for monsters to get you big gems.

erm traps... I meant water trenches. You might not need them against the distorted if you have a blue gem with slowing rate of 50% or more, but they help against normal monsters good enough to place 4-5 in places where all your towers can reach the monsters.

supergemming still works in the original.

daleksparta, yes of course :P but personally I have used supergemming in GC1 only once, and laughed at the poor epic boss to struggle moving against a pure cyan with topped speed which shocked it each time it tried to move. There's basically no need of supergemming in GC1, there is no anger and endurances to create a hundred of 100k HP monsters which definitely need a chaingun to get rid of.

Look. Get your towers in a good block, and trench up the area in front. It works.

Also, gem bombs are great, and if you have a lot of Mana, get a heap of level 1 gems and drop the lot of them.

Developed a nifty and neat tactic that can get you through the first few epic bosses. Highly aggressive, with an emphasis on gembombing.
