Well, sometimes, people wants their thread/topic to be immediately locked or maybe even sometime deleted. So instead of waiting, why can't they just lock it?

I don't know. I don't see anything wrong with it, seeing as how mods can still lock/delete other
members' threads if they feel it needs to, but if no mods are present, the member has made the
thread, and he/she wants it to be locked/deleted, then it should be allowed.

One thing though: NO DELETES! If the thread was big, and he deletes it, then everyone's AP from
that is done and over with. That leads to chaos and flaming the user, and that amounts to
nothing around here.

Other than no deleting, I don't really see a problem in locking your own thread.

This could be an ok thing.
But, a person could lock a thread for the wrong reasons. Or for no reason at all.

I agree with Shintetsu on this one. It's a good idea.

But, a person could lock a thread for the wrong reasons. Or for no reason at all.

I think you are misunderstanding the suggestion. What Mattt15 means is that if a thread was created but the creator of the thread wants it locked and there are no mods on, then they themselves, the creator of the thread, could lock it themselves. However if you mean that the creator could lock the thread for no reason at all, well if they don't want to continue on their thread, it's their decision to lock it, and they have the right to do so.

True, true. I sit very corrected.

This is a good idea, mods would have more time to do other things.

Kinda pointless unless it is spammed though. Or if multiple users tell you it isn't allowed.

That's the only reason locking is needed for. That and if the user realizes that he/she posted
a question and it was answered, he/she can lock it for themselves, without the mods' help. This
does indeed give more time for mods for them to do other things, like give out merits to those
that deserve it for all their hard work in making a review.

Problem: if someone is stubborn of their own beliefs in a debate thread in which was expecting universal agreement

just because the creator doesn't want to see it doesn't mean we can't continue the conversation

Solution to problem: Can't they still copy the end of their conversation into another thread and then continue it there. Nothing says that a conversation started in a thread must end then.

Problem to solution: more threads about one idea = bad, duplicate threads result in more locked threads,

Another Problem: Creators quit/ offline

Mods can still lock?

Problem: if someone is stubborn of their own beliefs in a debate thread in which was expecting universal agreement

REAL solution to problem: People request mods to unlock, because of biased reasons, or have
the feature barred from the politic forum.

You should at least, have the ability to rename or lock your thread.
Why rename? like the Art Competition Thread?
When you wanna put like from "Art Compt. (pag.1-15 - Elves)" to "Art Compt. (pag.16-28 - War)" For an Example & you have to wait for a mod, to rename it for you.

You should also post a comment for why you are locking the thread too.
If your thread is Very long & you want it deleted,
It would be better for you to lock it, otherwise tons of Armor Gamers will lose all the AP they made in that thread, which is bad. -.-

What i feel really wrong, why do deleted user's still have their post on some old Topics?

Why wouldn't they? They may have contributed well to the old threads before they did something that got them banned, and there's no reason to remove all evidence of their existence.

That's the only reason locking is needed for.
Nah, there's a few more.
That and if the user realizes that he/she posted

True...

Less true, at least for me. Foruming/fixing threads and looking through game comments are very different activities.

the feature barred from the politic forum.
Could happen in other sections too.
And if we unlocked and they had the option to lock, they could just do so again.

I agree more with a suggestion to be able to rename your thread and/or maybe edit the OP. I'm not really fond of the idea of everyone being able to lock their own threads for whatever reason they may have.
It's just posting a link on a mod's profile and waiting for them to click it, skim the thread, and click the lock if it needs the locking (or the lock is required by the creator in less public threads). The process takes a maximum of three minutes, not counting the time in which the comment is dormant on the moderator profile. It would not be that time-saving.

Agreed to this. There's a certain amount of accountability that goes with both these abilities, and while I think users in general would benefit and treat the former properly, the latter is much harder to implement fairly.

So far I don't see any major hiccups that can stem from granting everyone the ability of locking their own threads.

But locking a thread doesn't actually happen very often, so why do so....there are other things that the developers should implement...Site optimization...It isn't really a major issue at the moment. Just catch a mod and they will lock it happily...as soon as possible.

By locking a thread without proper consideration, you may deprive someone of contributing a valid point. For example, when a person considers he's question to be answered fully, someone may still want to or has a sound point to make.

Not to mention if certain people hijack your accounts...*cough siblings* *cough hackers* *cough friends*, and they lock a thriving thread on the spur of the moment....well unless you can unlock your own thread too. Though the original owner might not be aware of the situation.

But renaming a thread's name? Edit the OP? Yes...Plausible and extremely useful.

This thread for example could use that.

Most of the threads that actually need to me locked, the thread creator isn't just going to lock them. Why? Because they think it is a good thread/don't pay attention.

It's easier just for us mods to take care of things. We get the occasional request from users to lock their own threads, and we go lock it.
