.... That's not the issue And even if it was, schools are making budget cuts just to survive, if we had to pay an entire staff for another day, plus the operating costs of a school which can be extremely high.
Teachers are not in the profession for the money. Most of us are here because we want to make a difference and improve the education system in America. Adding another day would make it impossible to make the changes I want.
Though Japan may have a 6-day school week with higher pass rates, they also have a much higher teen suicide rate. We have enough people killing themselves over the economy & drugs.
I'm seeing the longer summer/spring/winter break argument, but that A) May not be the case and B) Is not always a good thing. Longer breaks means more boredom means more delinquency. Which is bad. And yes, that is a valid argument. I experienced it first hand. 3 months is a long time. 4 or 5 months is even longer. Break is awesome for about 2 - 3 weeks, then it gets REALLY boring. Unless you have something very constructive to do, it's very boring.
