Going by genius, the winners would be Pink Floyd, the Jimmy Hwndrix Experience, Modest Mouse, Santana, Pink Floyd, Cream, Talking Heads, and maybe Opeth. But that's going by musical genius. All of these guys have at least one musical genius in 'em.
Linkin Park. And not just because they are my favorite band, I really do think they are the best. They took a basic structure of nu metal and alternative rock, much like a few other bands, but they added inspirations of techno, electronica, hip hop, rap, and even some R&B into their earlier compilations. in their latest studio album they have strictly resorted to just awesome alternative rock, which is good, but not as creative and unique.
Hopefully their next album will be more like Hybrid Theory and Meteora.
Iron Maiden is the best! All their albums are awesome (Except the two blaze baley garbage which I prefer not mention) and they have the best metal songs in the world! If you don't like them you don't have the right to have babies :-P My fav. songs are: Phantom of The Opera, Hallowed be Thy Name, Aces High, Only the Good die young and more...
