I do occasionally listen to radio if I am cooking in the kitchen but I don;t really need it. In this technology and information rich age if you want music you put on your MP3 player or go on the internet and if you want news there is, again, the internet. It is nice to have but in many ways it has been superseded and replaced. Why listen to random tracks on the radio when you can download whatever you want. Why listen to the news when you can watch it online or on a 24 hour news channel.
I like to listen to radio live shows, they are different then TV shows because you can't see the people that are talking and you have to use your imagination, when I saw a man that I used to listen on radio I realized that he is completely different from what I thought he look like. And it is interesting listening to random tracks, sometimes it reminds you on something that you haven't heard in years. After all if you don't like the track you can always change the station.
streaming audio on the web, and the availability of on-demand media is what is causing the decline in radio listeners. Why wait for a song to play on the radio when you can search, and hear it in mere minutes?
Sure, i use the radio occaisionally while driving, but even then, a CD player is often my preferred choice. No commercials, and only the music you want to here... It'd be hard for the radio to top that.
The radio is heavily policed by the FCC and all the radio stations are afraid of fines so they're firing their DJ's and morning show hosts like crazy. I personally know a dj who works for a big radio station. They just fired everyone but him so his job now is to record promos for the station. They have a computer that plays all the songs and commercials so there's no need for dj's anymore. Radio now is just all watered down which is the main reason why its dying.
I hate the radio because the music sucks. Every year it seems more and more evident that the majority really don't know what good music is. Music that actually has passion behind it. That is performed for reasons beyond money or fame. That is why I think that the radio is starting to die.
