They beat Egypt 3-0 somehow. And I think they may be through the group stages. Italy messed up not that they will eb that bothered I'm sure it's not a major tournament I'm sure some of them will be a bit glad they don;t have to play.

It's still a major blow to pride, especially considering the poor quality of the opposition.
The Italian press have also been sharpening their knives for a fair while. The choice to select older players has been very contraversial and clearly hasn't paid off. They'll be in for some pretty heavy flak.

they are through because of brazils domination over italy... the way the tie breaker worked out is that the US had a 4-3 goal advantage even though they lost heads up to italy....
I am italian and I have to say that this is the worst Italy I ever saw. The players are old and slow, Pirlo-Gattuso-Cannavaro-Zambrotta-Camoranesi-Perotta. Toni is useless. Buffon now isn't that good. Chiellini and Legrottaglie are out of shape. Pepe can't even cross. Dossena can only kick the oposition players. Santon didn't play a minute and he is probaly with Balotelli the greatest talent. Iaquinta runs, but can't score. This Italy deserved loosing.
man dont be so down on your team... just because some players are not 18-22 and you dont have the likes of a messi or ronaldo on your team does not say that you have a bad squad... you do have young tallent and italy will be a power house for a long time even if they are only a 4.5/5 star team and not a 5....
I hope that Italy played bad, because that was a unimportant tournament and that at 2010 World Cup they will play well
unimportant??? no... just because its not the world cup does not say that this tournament isnt helping the staff see changes they need to make as well as having players learn how to play as a single unit

Italy national was always a lazy team, but now they exaggerate, even at 2006 world cup they started playing well at the semifinals.

the game runs in the blood of italians... i dont see this as a set back... rather i see what happened a way to gain information for the world cup and i know you are italian but you cant hate ZZ right???
The worst thing is that Lippi didn't try many new players they are the same as always, the only new were Rossi and Santon.
allot of times coaches will be scared to sit a well known player because if the team ends up loosing people will say will if this person was in maybe things would have been different.... but i agree that teams need to experiment and i feel that this was the perfect time to do so and not wait till the actual world cup
wow im not going to go look through all the post, but it is vivid in my mind that a certain person said that the US sucks... man if the US sucks how come they are playing great... oh did i forget to mention the 2-0 victory over spain who had to fifa world records??? i think it was 30+ games without a loss tied with the 93 brazilian team and i think 15 straight games in a row winning... crazy GO USA!!!
I'm annoyed at the USA win, not because it was the USA winning, but the Spanish losing. A Spain-Brazil final could have been a classic match. However it is also nice to see an underdog win, even if it is the USA.
Tey were lucky Spain were complacent in the first half, but to their credit, they did take their chances well and defend well too.
At the beginning of the tournament, I couldn't imagine the US even passing the group stage, but now they are in the final. They even broke the 35 matches Spain's winning streak.
I'd say them getting through the group stages was the most incredulous thing they've done in this cointest. They needed a win and a +6 goal difference over Italy. That day Italy lose 3-0 and they win 3-0. How unlikely is that?

i think the hard work payed off... and it could easily been a different result but the US held their ground and scored when they had the chances... i think altador's goal was pretty good and dempsy's goal was with the help and a little luck from the spanish defence
