it is not gonna happen in our lifetime, 'cause everyone knows that if that happens, world is gona be extinguished...there will be wars happening, maybe with biochemical weapons, but no nuclear war.
They're no grand wars anymore. Technology has advanced to a sufficient level in terms of attack that both sides can be destroyed fairly easily, whether its nuclear or "conventional" weapons. So unless the plans are to nuke small terrorist cells, there probably won't be a nuclear war.
Even if there will be a nuclear war we will certainly at that time have developed some effective anti-ballistic missile to avoid most of the damage done by the nuclear weapons. But as stated above it is unlikely that there will be a nuclear war...
Wow did any one ever hear of the Cold War? We were so close in engaging a nuclear war with Russia. Anyway, when WW3 happens, expect nukes to be launched. Unless of coarse, WW3 happens when nukes are obsolete thanks to better anti-missile systems or we have created something better than a nuke.
In the not too distant future there will be a Nuclear War between Cyborgs and Robots.
This wonderful contribution to this topic is greatly appreciated ......

Thats why its the "Cold War". It wasn't actually a war... Really, that statement has absolutely no relevance to the possibility of a future nuclear war.
Look, I'll say this fairly basically. In a globalized world like we have, there aren't any benefits to starting a nuclear war. Its much more likely that we'll have conventional warfare, since no nation wants to launch a nuke and risk getting destroyed. So, no, I don't think there will ever be a full out nuclear war

The only way I see nukes ever really being used in the future is a high altitude (I.E. Stratospheric) detonation for the EMP effect to knock out an enemies infrastructure, because a low altitude or ground detonation causes way too much fallout and that would anger the global community way too much. Even then I don't really see that happening.
well, you never know. a nuclear war could occur, but its very unliekly. and tennisman is wrong, it could be with the US. the primary contributors would be North Korea, US, Russia, and China. but remember, in a nuclear war, no one wins. and if we can develop something far better than nukes, it will be something to be feared. i think that if we continue to improve nuclear missiles and other atomic weapons, they will some day be able to destroy worlds...
At the moment there are countries in the world developing and testing nuclear weapons. Plenty of countries already have them. North Korea has been testing missles that have the potential to reach U.S. territory. I think that the first full scale nuclear war could happen in my life time. I don't want it to but it could. When there are people in the world with power who view nearly every other nation with hostility it is impossible to say with any certainty that a nuclear war will never happen.
