PETA claims that it is working for animals, and that we are the ones abusing animals by eating them, wearing them, and using them for other various purposes. However, according to a recent article over 20,000 animals have been "ut down" by PETA since their launch in 1998.
In addition, during all of 2008 they found homes for merely 7 of the 2,216 animals they took in. Excuse my language but, what the f***? They give us hell for swatting flies, while they kill all the animals that they can't find homes for.
If you read the article, you'll see that they have a budget of $32 million every year, so what happens to that?
Oh, right, they use that to attack us for eating that hamburger. It was probably made using a cow they killed.
That really makes no sense, they don't use that money to help find the animals homes, but for advertising.
So guys what do you think? Does PETA stand for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or does it stand for People Eating Tasty Animals?
PETA... Funny society. They kill the animals to make room for more and also maybe the animals are hurt and sick and are probably better off dead. I eat meat because well... It tastes good. I'm not really an animal person, but I can understand where they are going. In my opinion animals are just pets and humans are far more important. You shouldn't really spend a whole lot of money on them.
So you're saying PETA is like this... PETA: Oh, a sick little puppy abandoned on the streets. *pulls out gun* Puppy: *yelps questioningly*
No its more like this
PETA: YA, i think shooting sick little puppies is wrong and anyone who does it is evil. Oh, a sick little puppy abandoned on the streets. *pulls out gun* Puppy: *yelps questioningly*
They think animal testing is wrong even though it has saved and could continue to save countless human lives.
Yeah...I'm definitely not with PETA, but I find animal testing just sick. Cosmetic products? Really? Do we have to kill and maim animals just to find out how a product works?
Without meat we wouldnt even be humans, the fact that people ate meat is one of the reasons why we because so smart.
Eh, I have to disagree. They're plenty of animals that eat meat yet not considered as smart as us, so they're really no facts to back that. You could say that cooking meat is evidence of us being smart, but then again we wouldn't have to worry about cooking meat so thoroughly if we didn't process it so much.
Is People Eating Tasty Animals from South Park? I was trying to remember where I heard that from earlier when I posted it on the Obama board...
PETA: YA, i think shooting sick little puppies is wrong and anyone who does it is evil. Oh, a sick little puppy abandoned on the streets. *pulls out gun* Puppy: *yelps questioningly*
Or like this...
PETA: Oh no! A sick puppy, we need to find it a home!
*1 year and $34 million (spent on ads of course) later*
PETA: Hmm...oh ya, I remember this guy. We picked him up a year ago, looking kind of hungry...hmm. Food is too expensive *pulls out gun*
PETA: A PUPPY! NOW WE CAN TELL PEOPLE NOT TO KILL IT! YAY! SOMETHING FOR US TO DO! four months later: PETA: A PUPPY! NOW WE CAN TELL PEOPLE NOT TO KILL IT! YAY! SOMETHING FOR US TO DO! puppy: they have been screaming like that for awhile... hm... PETA: THIS PUPPY SUCKS! TOO EXPENSIVE! LETS GO SPEND THE MONEY ON SOMETHING PRODUCTIVE THAT WILL HELP US IN OUR QUEST AGAINST ANIMAL KILLERS! LIKE THAT STRIP BAR! *pulls out gun* puppy: **** PETA is sort of a joke
PETA is the ultimate hypocritical bunch of idiots. They try to defend animals, when they have a 95% kill rate and are on a personal mission to wipe out dogs. I mean seriously, who came up with mandatory spay and nuder? Some stupid retard who forgets that the survival of a species is completely dependent on mating, so PETA, kiss my arse. The only half decent humane society is the ASPCA, and even they have their flaws, but a 95% kill rate is not one of them.

It doesn't always end in killing the animals or maiming them - after all, the products that are successful are the ones that aren't deadly... as for those early trials on animals... would you rather they did those potentially fatal or disfiguring tests with humans?
It's an ugly part of reality, but when you're dealing with people's lives & safety, laboratory hypothesis just isn't quite enough, and you need test data. So... either we throw out a lot of the products we are using and are researching & developing, or we do animal testing - unless you can come up with a different option, but at the moment it's tough to have it both ways.

Well on that note, I think the main issue people should concentrate on is the treatment of animals within that context of animal testing.
I am unable to mount a stance against formation of animal models and animal testing as without them, ethics would dictate that medical research would grind to a standstill. And that would kinda suck for me.
Anyway...let's also remember to try and keep a level head when discussing controversial groups. Even if it seems obvious that PETA's positions and actions are not internally consistent.

Agreed; my thought was mostly toward sparking discussion on other alternatives.. I mean, I'm not heartless, but as you said, without them, medical science kind of goes nowhere.

Absolutely. I'm not angry or anything; there's not really.. much of anything that makes me angry - just stating my position
I find it inhumane to put an animal to sleep unless they are going through actual suffering. Not just because they can't find a home, that's... that's utter idiocy and cruelty.
The PETA bugs the (for lack of will to use a worse word) snot out of me. They get onto us for swatting one too many flies, and they go killing 20,000+ animals for the sake of having a better budget. Frankly, I'm fine with just the ASPCA.
