Hi people, i doubt anyone at all remembers me, but i was an older member that became inactive and moved to the Kongregate art forums. Now I think I'll come here to and listen to some criticism .
newer sigs
older
for the lulz, (my noob ones from when i started)
constructive criticism is VERY accepted. just comment on my newer sigs if your going to criticize.
Eddie, I've been keeping it quiet for awhile now, but that sig just looks like a screenshot of halo with text. As far as sig rules are stated, that's not one. Sigs are YOUR OWN WORK, not someone else's, even if they are a company of some renown.
Looks to me that only half of those sigs are genuine to Jikek. Why do some of them not have your name / signature, Jikek?
because they were requests. i can prove to you all they are my sigs (of course the renders arn't mine) wouldn't it be slightly awkward to fulfill a request and put your name on it?
for the tnk rinorim and blakhazr. it is my brawl clan. blakhazr is not active anymore. Rino you will rarely see anymore. I have a feeling im gonna get banned for advertising my clan if i give you the link though. the kira one is the name of the dude in the render. and if you dont seriously know who Brian Griffin is >.>
Nah, I've done it plenty of times =) The trick is to advertise it through not advertising, like putting it up on your about page. Ok I believe you, and yes, it wouldn't be right if you put your own name down on someone's requested sig XD
You're right, not many people just scrolling through really care. But no one passing by you when you're talking on a stolen phone really care either. But if/when the owner does see they're work being distributed without their permission and without their names nowhere to be found, they will care and you'll wish to hell you had taken the time and covered your ass.
Also, most f the render's are not allowed to be distributed and modified and are covered by copyright. That is because they they are just pictures that have been masked out of another picture that is almost guaranteed to be under a copyright or trademark protection. Example: a 'render' of master chief is really just a cut-out(though any professional would mask) of a screen shot on Bungie's web site. Just because the screen shot and terms of use was broken by another member that then distributes it freely does not mean you can accept it from him without limitations from its original owner. You always have to look at a pieces fine print, its author, its owner, its location, and, though not limited too, its terms of use, and you must ALWAYS comply by them. Here is the second section from Bungie's terms of service to show they have every right to go after you:
Unless otherwise specified, the Bungie Web Sites are for your personal and non-commercial use. You may not modify, copy, distribute, transmit, display, perform, reproduce, publish, license, create derivative works from, transfer, or sell any information, software, products or services obtained from the Bungie Web Sites.
It doesn't apply to just Halo, all the images you have posted contain characters that are sure to be trademarks of various (large) companies. Images are not products or software, they are art.
The internet has people believe they can make pure awesome without putting in a lot of work by manipulating the awesome done by other people. This kind of shortcut mentality should be destroyed. That awesome came from somewhere else, so really, if you want to do awesome yourself, why not put in the hard yards yourself?
Looks to me that only half of those sigs are genuine to Jikek. Why do some of them not have your name / signature, Jikek?
*cough* it seems that most gfx submissions here don't have any signatures, leading us to believe that most of them are stolen or contain stolen information (and subsequently investigating them as such, I should add). I would suggest that people put signatures on their work or watermarks but in all honesty I don't think this will help in most cases because I'm pretty sure somebody will come up with the bright idea of ripping somebody's work and THEN putting a signature on top *cough*
So the bottom line: don't be lazy and don't be tempted to lie because truth still exists on the internet, it's just only accesible to those who bother to look for it. Here's a guide to user responsibility:
* If copying or pasting other material into your work, ensure images are under commons or free use. Stock image websites, and private gifts for which you have available documented evidence of your permission to use, are your only safe bet.
* Always credit the source. Even if you're drawing something yourself and it's of a trademarked character, cite the copyright. Characters are intellectual property!
* Preferred: include a commentary of how you did it. This is also beneficial from people who want to learn and also for you to look at how you might improve your own skills. It also helps because I frequently ask a suspected thief how they did something and they make up some BS or don't know what to say...dead giveaway.
Why do you people not believe that these are my sigs? gah, how pathetic do you have to be to steal sigs? i mean seriously! i can give you the XCF files to some of them if they're not deleted already. i can explain the process i did to make it! i even have eye witnesses! what do you want!
