Basically, after being out of contact with his office and employees, South Carolina's governor dis appeared. He showed up again on Wednesday, claiming that he had been hiking on the Appalachian Trail. This was a solid alibi, because he is known as an outdoorsman, and the Appalachian Trail is so large that it would be impossible to track him down.
However, recent reports indicate that he was not in fact hiking on his own, but was instead in Argentina. The governor claims he went to drive along the coast; Argentina has one coastal road, and it is approximately two miles long.
Now, this vacation came after a devastating legislative session, which left the governor unable to decline some of the stimulus money coming in. As a strong anti-stimulus advocate, it is understandable that the governor would want to take a break and clear his head. However, why lie about your destination, and why go completely under the radar of staff, friends, and family members? Such secrecy is unprecedented in Sanford's history of taking vacations.
In addition to this, there is no clear state law in South Carolina that dictates who should make the final decisions in cases of emergency in which the governor is not within contact range or is otherwise disposed.
So, some questions: Why Argentina, and why the disappearance rather than leaving an informed staff and family?
Also, who should take reign in the case of the governor's disappearance?
If all he wanted was a vacation he should have informed the staff and his family. Even if he wasn't doing anything illegal dissappearing without informing anyone is bound to make people suspicious. When a person is elected to a position such as governor they have the responsiblity of doing the job properly. A person doesn't get elected to be a governor unless they run for governor and you don't run unless you are willing to subject yourself to the public eye. You cannot expect to be able to dissappear without informing anyone when you lead such a public life. IMO it was plain irresponsible to leave without making it clear what the chain of command should be in his absence and leaving without informing ANYONE was just stupid.
I agree that the Lieutenant Governor would probably be the most logical person to fill the gap temporarily.
Maybe he didn't want anyone knowing where he was going so that the media wouldn't follow him, which they always do.
He actually just came out and admitted that he was having an affair and met the woman in Argentina. You were right about not wanting the media to follow him, haha.
Lol, GOP leadership is getting shot down like turkeys in November.
One no, some one should call PETA, :P
Anyway, what a douche your the fucking governor you dont get to just leave what is anthrax invaded or something! Or what if they suceded again! Plus all the retards in South Carolina cant survive unsupervised for long!
Of course, a better question would be: why would a young woman from Argentina even remotely want to have an affair with an old, hawkish American politician?

Maybe she is a prostitute and he didnt know...or maybe he did.
I think the CIA brainwashes all these trophy wife people to make politicians not look completely old
LOL I heard a joke last night that I thought actually made sense. This guy said that when a new governor is elected the wife or whoever should get an I'm with stupid tee-shirt. That way instead of standing like a dutyful wife with a fake smile plastered on her face at the press conference where the affair is annonced she can just put on her shirt that says "I'm with stupid" the arrow pointing to the cheating jerk.
The thing that annoys me the most about this guy is that he did this on Father's Day weekend. Think about how disappointed his children must be knowing he'd rather spend the weekend in Argentina having an affair.
