So what's the alternative structural approach? I spanned up to 32m using (relatively) lightly braced arched bridges, moving to steel at the ends and wood in the middle, but it's got to the point where the base points seem to just sheer off. I tried making an experimental suspension chain, but it tore even under its own weight.
I agree budget is not the issue. I haven't spent more than 10% of available cash up to 32m.
Once you get to somewhere around 30m it becomes impossible to build structural bridges. After that you just have to build massive 10-15m steel constructions on both sides and between them a very light plank bridge without any connectors. I haven't changed my design since somewhere around 25m. If anyone is interessted I might make a short walkthrough on building longer bridges.
Exactly. The steel structures flex and keep the wood chain-bridge from snapping. I can't get past 56m, though. You must be creating a fantastic bridge to reach 62-63m.
