When a developer makes a great game, and everyone loves it, of course they have to make a sequel! Now, the creation of that game will be even harder to make then the first. Why? Beacause of the New fanbase it has. ( The actual making is hard also ^_^)
They ( The Fanbase) has experienced a great game, and they want more. A sequel. It's hard because first of all you need to stay relativley close to the original, or else people will say "This isn't XXXXXX!" And hate the game, or maybe just call it a good game, but it shouldnt be XXXXXXXs sequel. With that in mind, the developer trys to stay to the roots, and evolve a bit. My favorite example is Gemcraft! The original had great innovation and was exetremely fun to play and was loved by many people, including me. So then the second came out, with mixed reaction. Lots of people loved it, but others sayed it was the same as the original with added perks. And they were, in a way, correct. There was no big WOW Game in a Bottle added to it. (an example of a WOW would be super mario 64 to galaxy, added the gravity effect, which was a big gameplay change) But it was still a really, really good game.
Sequels are difficult, very very difficult to make. here I'll try to make a little graph (I stink at these things)
The little grooves at the beginning and end means your either straying to far from the original and its basically becoming a new game, or your sequel is basically a 1.5 ^_^ However, the middle is a great place to be, because your adding alot to the original but its still able to be related to the original.
So try to appreciate the difficulty of a Sequel to a game. Try not to complain (not that you would ^_^) that its to close to the original or to differnt. Theres a fine line and it's hard to be exact!
THE END Any comments? Post them there, right below me please ^_^ oh and if this has been done before, please lock this thread and whatnot and give me a link to the original. (I searched for it but couldn't find it so I figured no-one had done this ^_^)
