I have multiple problems with GIMP 2. I start it up, make a new one, pixels all sorted out, color picked, and then, I select the paintbrush, and try to paint, nothing happens. I try many tools, and I cannot draw a single straight line. An suggestions?

You mean you cant draw, or you cant draw a straight line? If it wont let you draw, then it either froze or something else. If you cant draw a straight line, hold shift when drawing.

Well maybe there is a problem with your mouse.... or the most likely the program itself.

Some screenshots of what you're doing would be nice.
Maybe try to check that your system meets the requirement, or try reinstalling the program.

Sorry for the DP, but it occurred to me that that^^ would get deleted for being too short...

Anyway, did you try selecting File>New? Because you can't draw on the initial window that opens... that's just a toolbar of sorts...

Okay, you see the black/white thing in the toolbox? Press the black, then a colour pad should appear for you to choose from. Pressing ctrl only applied for picking a colour from the drawing itself, if I remember correct.

If you keep having problems with the basic features, I think you should look up a manual or some tutorials on how to use the programs. Not that I (or people here in general) don't like to help, it would just be easier for you to get all the information quickly if found an instruction manual of some kind.
