I'm not saying this in a disrespectful way, but I can't see that censorship has much of an effect on the amount of users that swear on this site? Most users on here are pretty good in that regard and don't swear anyway, and the ones that aren't just bypass the censor completely by simply putting full stops/spaces/commas between their letters. Wouldn't it just be easier to uncensor everything and just punish the tiny minority that go too far?

But it isn't censored when included in other words now, like the r*pe in grape.

I think you should watch this. It's possibly offensive, but it is just a joke.

I mean bypassing them by inserting your own asterisks, but leaving a few letters seems fine.
Actually that is just as bad, but most of the time when people do that, it is because they want to use the word in a context where it isn't a problem. Like when discussing the reasons for the censorship of a certain word.

There are many curse words that are all four letters long, but you don't want people thinking you're saying "f***" left and right. I mean someone who feels the need to cuss multiple times in a post should probably get their act together, but it seems like in that instance the censors would make the post seem more vulgar than if it was uncensored.

Most of the time it's easy enough to see which word was intended.

The synonyms of "cursed", "feces" and "shagging" are annoyingly enough all 4 lettered, but usually the context reveals which one was used. On the rare occasions where it's ambiguous, it's usually bad enough for that to not matter.

I like how you put that xD I'm not that clever this late when I wake up early.

Yeah, that's true.

I think censorship is good though. Some kids were not raised cursing, and it offends them or something. It doesn't make a difference to me but for some kids it probably does. But just there is no reason to curse on ag. just watch what you say (:

The problem with censorship is, it fully depends on the community's overall behavior, what I mean with this is that you can not have too much or too little censorship, because if you have too much it will more than likely be bypassed so frequently people will be annoyed and threads complaining about it will not be uncommon, but on the other hand if you decide to put little effort on censorship people will more than likely abuse the system and will use these words frequently. My point is that there is no &quoterfect" strength of censorship, for example, if you decide to censor a lot of words it might interrupt with the words that other people might be writing which is seen often in most forums. So my suggestion is simple, keep censorship to a minimum until the you see fit to increase the censorship level, this makes the community feel trusted in some way. This also works vice versa, if you think the community is being a bit more mature regarding the cussing then you can decide to lower the censorship level, anyways I leave you guys until tomorrow I have to sleep.

i wish i knew why there are curse words in the first place, everyone knows them and most are ashamed to say them in public

Yeah well I don't really get why they censor things either. I mean, it's easily bypassed so doesn't do anything. And yeah, this is a PG-13 site. Every 13-year old has heard swearing. It's part of life. And I don't really get what's so offensive about saying those words. Not that I say them, but they're just words, right?

yeah they are just words to you. but to some other people they are a lot more hurtful or something. But yeah the censor thing is dumb. because yeah it's easily bypassed. but to some kids it's just more than a word. I guess..

You shouldn't tell them to completely remove the censor system, even if it's immensely weak it still has a mental value, what I mean is they still feel the restriction to cuss, which will stop a percentage of people from actually doing it, see what I mean?

I still find it strange that "a.s.s" is censored. Mainly becasue it is not in common use in England as a swear word (it's a donkey for christs sake). I'm sure their are those who might get offended by ass but but it is possibly the worst swear word out there to the extent that it is barely one.

There used to be a commercial on a local TV station advertising slurpees and it asked "Are you a Froster Smart @$$?" (it was actually spelled @$$). They're still running that Smart Azz promotion.

Then in a couple days I hear it and every time it says @$$ it is beeped out by some random sound effect! I'm sure lots of people phoned in to the CRTC (Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission) and complained.

Interesting perhaps it is deemed more serious in North America than England like I say an ass is a donkey not your rear... oh well it is still a shame I can't say Charles Dickens without being censored
