I think that if you click on a flag on a comment, (accidentaly or on purpose) that two options should come up. One still has the flag, but just confirms that this is spam, and another showing a crown or somthing, but meaning that that comment deserves a merit. but there has to be at least 5 people saying it deserves one for a mod to look at it.
There was an upvote feature. It's not there anymore and I don't know if it will return. Upvoting doesn't even factor into a moderator's consideration of whether or not that comment deserves a merit since they read through as many or as few as they want and some users get other users to upvote their comments.
Like Gantic said, there used to be an upvote feature. It was just a little arrow you could click if you think it deserved a merit. It was removed because a good comment should stick out without the help of people voting it up.
Green- Just because a good comment should stick out that doesn't mean people shouldn't up vote. The mods can't see every comment and when comments get up voted it helps grab the mods attention thats all.
