So, Just the other day iwas walking around pittsburgh with my mom, when we saw random people sitting around with torn clothes, the "Money for the poor" sign...the whole nine yards.

So I got to thinking. Why are they really homeless? Why don't they try and do something? How many of them really ARE homeless?

Tehn you see the ones with only one leg. Um...How did they get that way? And couldn't they have gotten enough money out of what ever person was responsible?

So what do you guys think about this?

It interests me to a fact on how you care so much.

They are homeless due to financial downpour. Some people can rather just end up homeless then deal with the stresses of life. Some are run aways from when they are children. There can be many reasons.

They can have many injuries as well and infections from living in harsh conditions. One without a leg does not mean that someone else chopped it off. They probable gotan infection and had to get it amputated at a hospital.

Homeless people can be very annoying sometimes. Thankfully, I live in a town where there are no homeless people. However, when I went to California a few years ago, and there were many people who wanted money.

I think that many homeless people could get back on their feet if they really had the gumption to get off the corner and stop begging. At least they could get a job and have some money to eat and maybe have an apartment. If they really wanted to get off the streets, they would do it.

Most of them could go get a job, or at least go to the human resources office and get welfare. They don't need to sit on the streets begging for our money.

you do know you can't do either of those without identification, and it would be very difficult for them to get anything without a little help.

personally i feel sorry for homeless people, rejected from society because their family abandoned them, or they gave up on life, coulnd't take it, ect.

They can just do a few random jobs until they get enough money to buy a state ID.

I hate how my heart aches every time I see someone doing poor business or being homeless. But in my opinion, most of them who beg for money is because they wasted all of it on an addiction, like cigarettes or drugs.

Although I feel sorry for them, I believe, like Firetail, that they have spent their money on something like drugs or alcohol. And if they had the ability to get off the streets and get a job they might not be homeless. Or if they could quit.
My uncle is a alcoholic, he's about 50 yrs old and still living with my grandparents(his mom and dad) cuz he spent all the $ for his house payments on drinks.
Some people say that kinda thing is a disease, but I think thats ____. They can quit, but they don't want to or are too weak to do so. It's not an illness, it's a choice! And even though you do see the occasional hardworking, honest homeless person, well just give em some money and be on your way. But with the druggies...you know they're just gonna spend the money you give them on drugs or alcohol, so don't bother.

if they can't fit into society, without even trying they should just end it... at least that what most heartless people think. everyone should have a second chance.

There are a couple homeless people over here and they usually hold a sign saying need money or something. i asked my dad why they were homeless a long time ago and he said they spent their money on things they 'wanted' and didn't 'need'. and he said they didn't have a good credit score so they couldn't get a loan.
And a homeless person lives under the freeway like near where i am.
it saddens me because all he has up there is a whole bunch of boxes.

I agree. Doesn't the government have any way of getting them off the streets? At least the ones who didn't put themselves there, like druggies.

There was a homeless man near burger king and he asked for some money while we were in the drive-thru. Instead we offered him a burger (so he couldn't buy drugs) but he refused. My dad works as a handyman and offered the man a job to be his assistant. We planed to pick him up there the next day but he didn't show up.

Maybe the reason they are on the streets is because they arn't commited to life...

Sillybear, that's a good example. They also might just be lazy looking for begging money.
Or maybe they wanna die, but there are sooo many easier less dragged out ways to commit suicide.
